Patricia Arquette jokes that method acting caused her to hit Joey King with her Golden Globe

Patricia Arquette had serious critical momentum heading into the current awards season, and she’s speaking up about how she (accidentally) channeled it all onto Joey King’s forehead after this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

During EW’s live red carpet coverage at the SAG Awards Sunday, the Act actress playfully recalled the moment when, following her Golden Globes victory earlier this month for her performance in the Hulu series, she accidentally knocked her on-screen daughter’s noggin with the statuette.

“I’m a method actor!” the Oscar winner joked on Sunday, before grabbing a microphone to ask: “Are we all going to club her? This could be used as a club!”

The 51-year-old went on to explain that, while she has a lot of love for King, she also (partially) blames her for the incident. “If you look at the video, it was half club and half headbutt!” she quipped. “We both contributed to that violent [moment]!”

Arquette mistakenly hit King on the head while the pair filmed a video for InStyle’s famous elevator shoot following the Golden Globes ceremony, after which King took to social media to share a few photos of the aftermath.

“Patricia Arquette accidentally hit me in the head with her Golden Globe!” King tweeted. “That sentence will give me bragging rights for the rest of my life.”Arquette later responded to the tweet with a sweet apology, writing: “What happens in the elevator stays in the elevator! No seriously I’m so sorry sweetest one!”
