Regina Georges unite! Mean Girls alum Rachel McAdams makes surprise SNL cameo to introduce Reneé Rapp

Get in, loser. We’re going to Studio 8H.

There’s only one person in this world Regina George supports… herself. Obviously.

Rachel McAdams proved that point by showing up for her fellow Regina in a surprise Saturday Night Live cameo this weekend. In a move that Gretchen Wieners would describe as “so fetch,” the actress who originally terrorized North Shore High as the head Plastic in 2004’s Mean Girls delighted the entire live audience with a single sentence.

While the crowd cheered her on, McAdams smiled, gestured to the stage, and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Reneé Rapp!"

Rapp, who takes over the Regina reins in the new Mean Girls movie musical, then hit the stage for her second performance of the night. And the surprises didn’t end there — as Rapp sang "Not My Fault," a song from the movie’s soundtrack, Megan Thee Stallion suddenly jumped out of a tiered cake just in time for her verse.

Megan, who raps that she is the "Black Regina George,” celebrated the number afterwards on Instagram, sharing a photo of the three stars recreating a certain Spider-Man meme.

McAdams returned later that night for the sketch “Acting Class,” in which she played Natalie Partman, an actress struggling to succeed in Hollywood because of her striking resemblance to, yes, Rachel McAdams. She also took to the stage with the entire cast to bid the audience farewell at the end of the night and blew kisses to Other Regina, Rapp.

McAdams’ SNL presence was especially surprising given that she’s been sitting out for much of the Mean Girls reunion fanfare. Only Lindsay Lohan appeared at the New York City premiere of the remake, and she was the sole Plastic to pop up in the film. She also appeared in a series of Walmart commercials with her fellow MG stars Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, but McAdams was missing.

Reflecting on the reunion afterwards, McAdams said she simply wasn’t that excited about the prospect of shooting a commercial.  “A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag,” she told Variety. “Also… I didn’t know that everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be a part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my Plastics, but yeah, I found that out later.”

In the meantime, Rapp is embodying Regina and basking in the spotlight. The actress has been praised for both her comedic performance in the new film and her musical talent — no surprise, considering her stint as Regina during the Broadway run of the Mean Girls musical.

Rapp dropped her debut studio album, Snow Angel, in 2023, and performed the title track as the musical guest on this week’s episode of SNL, hosted by Jacob Elordi. Watch her and Megan Thee Stallion's full performance of "Not My Fault" in the video above.
