Movies Space Jam cast: Where are they now? Where were you when you first saw the Tune Squad make all their swishes come true? See what the cast of the Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny-starring sports comedy has been up to since making a slam dunk back in 1996. By Josh Glicksman Updated on April 4, 2023 05:01PM EDT 01 of 09 Space Jam, then and now Everett Collection Decades ago, the release of Space Jam depicted the battle between the Tune Squad and the Monstars, two teams who du(n)ked it out in a basketball game to determine the fate of the latter. The oft-referenced sports classic and provider of conversation-starting throwback jerseys features a loaded cast and plenty of NBA star cameos — Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, and Patrick Ewing, to name a few. (In 2021, there was a standalone sequel that featured celebs like LeBron James, Michael B. Jordan, Zendaya, and more.) Ahead, see what the cast of Space Jam has been up to since the film's 1996 release. 02 of 09 Michael Jordan (Himself) Everett Collection; Streeter Lecka/Getty Images Sure, Michael Jordan hasn't picked up a film credit since Space Jam and 1998's He Got Game, but we get the feeling that his name still rings a bell. After documenting his failed stint in minor league baseball and return to the NBA in the film, MJ completed his second three-peat between 1996–98. The six-time Finals MVP now profits heavily from the extremely successful Air Jordan brand — which is now the subject of Ben Affleck's 2023 biographical film, starring Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker, and Viola Davis — and is the main owner of the Charlotte Hornets, as well as the cofounder of the Nascar Cup series team, 23XI Racing. And, for the record, he's still the best ever. 03 of 09 Billy West (Bugs Bunny) Everett Collection; Joshua Blanchard/Getty Images Though it's difficult to provide the voice for a more notable character than Bugs Bunny, Billy West may have managed the next best thing following his work on Space Jam. As one of the most prolific modern voice actors, West voiced Philip J. Fry, Professor Farnsworth, and Dr. Zoidberg on the long-running TV series, Futurama. West also worked on The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, CatDog, The Oblongs, and so many more popular animated programs. The actor also appeared in person on screen, playing himself on a 2017 episode of Better Things. In 2023, West returned to voice his beloved Futurama characters on Hulu's revival series. 04 of 09 Bill Murray (Himself) Everett Collection; Stefan Hoederath/Getty Images If we were to list everything that Bill Murray has held a notable role in prior to and since the release of Space Jam, it may end up looking like a full-length novel. Instead, let's highlight his Oscar nomination in 2004 for Best Actor in Lost in Translation. He ultimately lost to Sean Penn (Mystic River), and it's hard to believe that's his only Oscar nod so far during his illustrious career. A few other highlights since Space Jam include cameos in Zombieland (2009) and its 2019 sequel; leading St. Vincent (2014); voicing Baloo in The Jungle Book (2016); a roster of Wes Anderson films; a Golden Globe-nominated performance in On the Rocks (2020); and playing Lord Krylar in Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). 05 of 09 Dee Bradley Baker (Daffy Duck) Everett Collection; Greg Doherty/Getty Images Like Billy West, Dee Bradley Baker is a bigwig in the voice-over industry, both before and after providing a comic assist as Daffy Duck in Space Jam. Although, we would be remiss if we went without mentioning his prior work as Olmec on Legends of the Hidden Temple from 1993 to 1995. Perhaps most notably, the actor has held a recurring role on American Dad! since 2005, playing the Smith family's talking goldfish, Klaus. (He even picked up an Emmy nomination in 2017 for the role for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.) He also did voice work on Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Peacemaker, among many other series. 06 of 09 Wayne Knight (Stan Podolak) Everett Collection; Tiffany Rose/Getty Images After portraying the lovable goober Stan Podolak in Space Jam, Wayne Knight continued his most notable role: Newman on Seinfeld. Since the conclusion of the timeless TV series, Knight has turned in a great deal of voice work, lending help to well-known projects like Toy Story 2 (1999), the Kung-Fu Panda franchise, and American Dad!. However, Knight hasn't given up his onscreen presence, appearing in episodes of The Exes, Narcos, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as well as films like Hail, Cesar! (2016), 12 Mighty Orphans (2021), and Darby and the Dead (2022). 07 of 09 Danny DeVito (Mr. Swackhammer) Everett Collection; Theo Wargo/Getty Images Danny DeVito has starred as the ever-interesting Frank Reynolds on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which has been on the air since 2005, earning the title of being the longest-running live-action sitcom. In Oscar world, he played Sid Hudgens in 1997's L.A. Confidential and produced the 2001 Oscar-nominated Erin Brockovich. DeVito slows no signs of slowing down, having made his Broadway debut in 2017's The Price; continuing voice-over work with Dr. Suess' The Lorax (2012) and Little Demon; and made appearances in projects like Dumbo (2019), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), History of the World: Part II, and Haunted Mansion (2023). He will return to Broadway in the fall of 2023 alongside his daughter, Lucy. 08 of 09 Kath Soucie (Lola Bunny) Everett Collection; Fernando Leon/Getty Images Kath Soucie contributed voice-over work to Space Jam as Lola Bunny, likely the most talented of all the toons on the Tune Squad and the love interest of Bugs Bunny. Before and after her work on the 1996 basketball picture, Soucie spent a great deal of time voicing twins Phil and Lil on Rugrats (whom she reprised in Paramount+'s reboot series in 2021). Soucie lent her talents to Futurama (like fellow cast member Billy West) as well as Handy Manny, As Told by Ginger, The Replacements, Danny Phantom, The Weekenders, Hey Arnold!, and Dexter's Laboratory, among others. On the feature front, she voiced the role of young Nick in Disney's Zootopia (2016). 09 of 09 Theresa Randle (Juanita Jordan) Everett Collection; Angela Weiss/Getty Images The bulk of Theresa Randle's notable roles came in the immediate window around Space Jam in 1996. In addition to playing Michael Jordan's wife, Juanita, in the movie, Randle portrayed Laura in Malcolm X (1992) and Theresa Burnett in Bad Boys (1995); she later reprised that role in Bad Boys II (2003) and Bad Boys for Life (2020). Randle also starred as Cordelia Banks in Lifetime's short-lived 2007 therapist dramedy series, State of Mind. Close
