Alex Hibbert (Kid Chiron/"Little")

Alex Hibbert made his film debut as the youngest version of Chiron, leading the film's first segment. His performance earned him multiple awards nominations, including Best Young Actor/Actress at the Critics Choice Awards.

Following Moonlight, Alex Hibbert signed up for a starring role on The Chi as Kevin Williams and appeared in Black Panther (2018) as one of the Oakland kids that T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) speaks with at the end of the film after the nation of Wakanda comes out of hiding.

Ashton Sanders (Teen Chiron)

Ashton Sanders had only taken a handful of roles before playing Teen Chiron in Moonlight. He won an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss, which he shared with Jharrel Jerome in the film's middle section.

Sanders has been busy making a splash in the acting world. He played RZA on the Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and starred in 2019's Captive State and Native Son. He took on a supporting role in Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) alongside Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield and played Bobby Brown in Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody (2022). Sanders has also become a fashion icon in the making, starring in MatchesFashion's first-ever brand campaign.

Trevante Rhodes (Adult Chiron/"Black")

Trevante Rhodes was the emotional core for the conclusion of Moonlight, playing the troubled Chiron as an adult. Like with his younger counterparts, the role brought him multiple accolades.

Rhodes has been enjoying a steady rise since starring in Moonlight, including turns in The Predator (2018), Bird Box (2018), Jay-Z's "Family Feud" music video. He also starred alongside Andra Day in The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021) and portrayed Mike Tyson in the Hulu miniseries Mike.

Jaden Piner (Child Kevin)

Like Alex Hibbert, Moonlight marked the debut onscreen performance for Jaden Piner.

Since appearing in Moonlight, Piner has been getting his feet wet in horror and thriller movies, starring in Boo! alongside Aurora Perrineau and Feral State (2020). He also appeared in three episodes of David Meets Man.

Jharrel Jerome (Teen Kevin)

Jharrel Jerome made his feature debut with his portrayal of Teen Kevin in Moonlight.

Jerome then starred on Mr. Mercedes, followed by a gut-wrenching turn as Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay's When They See Us, for which he won an Emmy. The actor also starred in 2020's Concrete Cowboy alongside Idris Elba.

André Holland (Adult Kevin)

André Holland frequented film and TV screens before playing Adult Kevin in Moonlight, with credits for The Black Donnellys, Friends With Benefits, 1600 Penn, 42 (2013), and Selma (2014).

Holland has proven to be quite the acting chameleon in his post-Moonlight roles. He has since appeared on American Horror Story: Roanoke, Castle Rock, and the Damien Chazelle-directed Netflix musical drama The Eddy. His film credits include A Wrinkle in Time (2018), High Flying Bird (2019), Passing (2021), and Bones and All (2022).

Naomie Harris (Paula)

Naomie Harris had a thriving career pre-Moonlight, in such movies as 28 Days Later (2002), the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and the Daniel Craig-led Bond films. Her portrayal of Paula in Moonlight, Chiron's mother who struggles with drug addiction, earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

After Moonlight, she starred in Collateral Beauty (2016), Rampage (2018), Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018), Black and Blue (2019), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and Swan Song (2021). Harris also starred on the short-lived Showtime drama The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Mahershala Ali (Juan)

Mahershala Ali took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Juan, "Little" Chiron's mentor, in Moonlight. Prior to Moonlight, he earned credits for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), and the last two Hunger Games films.

Ali went on to win another Best Supporting Actor Oscar two years later for Green Book (2018). The actor earned an Emmy nomination for True Detective season 3 and voiced Uncle Aaron in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). He also lent his voice to Robert Kirkman's Invincible adaptation and is set to play the titular character of Marvel's Blade reboot.

Janelle Monáe (Teresa)

Janelle Monáe made her live-action film debut with Moonlight, but it was far from her first brush with stardom. As a singer-songwriter, her debut album, The ArchAndroid (2010), earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

Monáe has been busy since Moonlight. She starred in Hidden Figures the same year as Moonlight followed by Welcome to Marwen (2018), and dropped an album, Dirty Computer, which landed an Album of the Year nomination at the Grammys. Additional credits include Harriet (2019), The Glorias (2020), Antebellum (2020), and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022).
