EW's editorial guidelines Published on December 19, 2024 10:42AM EST Comments Saoirse Ronan has apparently been out here for years keeping famous men professional in the most palatable ways! The actress reunited with her Little Women and Lady Bird costar Timothée Chalamet for a British Film Institute event put on in partnership with Vanity Fair on Wednesday night in London. Chalamet, who played Laurie opposite Ronan's Jo in the 2019 adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott literary classic, recalled his friend and acting colleague scolding him on set for being late to hair and makeup. "This is the one story I didn't want to tell," the actor prefaced, while Ronan asked, "Is this the really inappropriate story?" (It wasn't, apparently!) He was on the phone in his personal trailer, trying to figure out his schedule to promote the film. "I wanted to do a regional tour and visit places in the States that are affected by that story," he remarked. "So, the intent was pure." The problem was that he didn't make his call time in the hair and makeup chair on set of Little Women. "I get this bang on my trailer door, like, really intensely. I'm thinking someone died," he said. "I open the door and it's Saoirse in a bald cap." When asked if she remembers this moment, Ronan replied in her comically forthright manner, "Yeah!" Wilson Webb/Columbia Pictures Saoirse Ronan caught 'off guard' by viral Graham Norton clip: 'Weight that is put on every young woman' Clearly, this is much more of a lighthearted story between friends, especially now that they can laugh about it. But Ronan brought a similar energy to a Graham Norton interview in October when fellow talk-show guest Eddie Redmayne told a story about how his stunt team on The Day of the Jackal explained how he could use his phone as a weapon if he needed. Redmayne laughed about it with Paul Mescal (Gladiator II), also on the couch, who made a joke about how he'd never think to use his phone in a fight. "That's what girls have to think about all the time," Ronan interjected. "Am I right, ladies?" She received applause and the clip went viral. Ronan later told Entertainment Weekly of the moment, "It really has caught me off guard, honestly. I came away from filming Graham the other day and I was like, 'I don't think I did a great job... I should have said this or I should have said that.' And a few days after it came out, a few of my friends were like, 'The phone comment! Everyone's talking about the phone comment.'"
