Music Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis' concept album, Shrinking's new season, and Cabaret top this week's Must List "A Nightmare Before Christmas"-themed light trail and TCM's "Making Change" series round out our picks for the weekend of Oct. 18. By EW Staff Published on October 18, 2024 05:17PM EDT Comments I owe Sutton Foster an apology. I knew the two-time Tony winner was an incredibly talented singer and dancer, but I did not anticipate how gosh darn funny she was going to be in the current Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress. In a role originated by the incomparable Carol Burnett (and played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the 1990s revival), Foster's physical comedy (and pure stamina) is impressive throughout the retelling of The Princess and the Pea. But there's one pea-erfect moment involving some grapes that has me already buying tickets for when the show hits Los Angeles in December... —Patrick Gomez, Editor-in-Chief P.S. EW Survive the night… From the moment you hear Jasmine Cephas Jones' silky vocals, Busta Rhymes and RZA's sick rhymes, Joshua Henry's sweet boy band serenades, and Lauryn Hill's gravelly voice fully embodying the role of the ultimate turf warlord, you are transported into the Walter Hill 1979 cult classic that inspired this concept album. But wait — this time around it's an all-female gang that is wrongfully accused, which puts a unique and exciting modern twist on The Warriors that will make you sing out loud: Aw-she-kha! —Yolanda Machado, Staff Editor Read EW's interview with Miranda and Davis on how they landed thee Ms. Lauryn Hill "Shrinking" Harrison Ford and Jason Segel in season 2 of 'Shrinking'.
