Jennifer Garner spent her very first Comic-Con holding out for a hero, but it took over an hour for one to show up. On Thursday, the 52-year-old actress made her San Diego Comic-Con debut to celebrate her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, where she surprised fans by reprising her role as Elektra. Unfortunately, Garner ran into some trouble when she was trapped in an elevator with several other people at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego in Calif. In a series of videos shared on Instagram, Garner documented the elevator drama while awaiting help from first responders. "Hey guys, um, we're stuck on this elevator," Garner said in the first clip, just two minutes into the ordeal. "I could use a Wolverine, I could use a Deadpool. I could use someone.” Jennifer Garner. "It's toasty,” she admitted in the video. “I'm sphitzy, I need to blot." Panning over to the elevator attendant, she joked, "Don't cut the blue wire is what we're hearing.” By the 35 minute mark, Garner was sitting on the elevator floor: “I think I heard on an episode of The Office or Brooklyn Nine-Nine or something that you’re supposed to sit,” she explained. “So we’re sitting.” Then, 41 minutes into the elevator drama, Garner was leading the group in a round of "99 Bottles of Beer." But the lighthearted vibes were short-lived, as the 45 minute update saw someone in the group calling 911 to say that they were still awaiting help. Want more movie news? After "about an hour," lights and sounds resumed but the elevator remained stationary. To keep the vibes positive, Garner quietly sung Madonna’s “Like a Prayer,” a song featured during the climactic third act of Deadpool & Wolverine. Finally, 12 minutes later, the elevator doors were pried open by firefighters, prompting Garner and co to cheer and applaud. The happy ending was also cause for celebration amongst Garner’s celebrity friends. “OMG,” Gina Torres comments on the post. “Let that be a lesson to all you kids out there! Always pray to Madonna!” Meanwhile, others praised Garner for keeping her cool for over an hour. “Okay, no way oh my god how are you so calm,” asked Gwyneth Paltrow, while Tracee Ellis Ross added, “Oh my! Well done on staying calm!” While it’s unclear at what point in her Comic-Con journey Garner got trapped in the elevator, she did manage to enjoy some of her time in San Diego, alongside other Deadpool & Wolverine actors. “I was thrilled to be at #sdcc with these incredible friends,” she wrote in a separate post, sharing a video that featured stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin, as well as fellow surprise guests, Dafne Keen, Wesley Snipes, Chris Evans, and Channing Tatum. In addition to reuniting its titular heroes, the film resurrects former Marvel characters from their pre-MCU days: Garner's Elektra from 2003's Daredevil and 2005's Elektra, Tatum's failed Gambit movie, and Snipes from his Blade trilogy. Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters.
