Movies Idina Menzel wishes Adele Dazeem a happy birthday on anniversary of John Travolta Oscars flub They grow up so fast, don't they? By Sara Netzley Published on March 3, 2024 09:01PM EST John Travolta’s favorite Broadway star turned 10 this weekend, and Idina Menzel hit social media with her best wishes for the wickedly talented (and utterly fictional) singer. "Hey, Adele Dazeem, it's Idina Menzel. I just want to say happy birthday,” the Wicked star, 52, joked Saturday on TikTok. "I'm sending you so much love and positive energy. I hope you have the best, best day.” She then serenaded Adele with a round of “Happy Birthday.” Adele Dazeem was born onstage at the 2014 Academy Awards ceremony after Travolta’s slip of the tongue as he introduced Menzel, who was set to perform “Let It Go” from Frozen. “Please welcome the Wicked-ly talented, one and only, Adele Dazeem,” Travolta, 70, said. Despite the rocky start, “Let It Go” went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and Frozen took home the Best Animated Feature trophy. Christopher Polk/Getty The gaffe launched a Twitter account, a return to the Oscars stage for the pair the following year, and even a John Travolta name-generator. This isn’t the first time Menzel has joked about the Travolta incident on social media; during the 2022 TikTok "Not My Name" challenge, she shared Adele alongside her other famous alter egos, including Elphaba in Wicked, Maureen in Rent, Nancy in Enchanted, Rachel's mom in Glee, and Elsa in Frozen.
