It’s been more than 35 years since Bill Murray won his last Emmy, but the drought ended Sunday night when the comedian was awarded the Emmy for supporting actor in a limited series for his role as Jack Kennison in HBO’s Olive Kitteridge.

Murray, who was not in attendance Sunday, appeared in two of the drama’s four hour-long installments, based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that explores the 25-year relationship of a middle school math teacher and her relationship and her husband. Murray’s character enters the story as a local widower who forms an unexpected relationship with Olive.

This marks Murray’s second Emmy win and fourth nomination. His first statue came in 1977’s writing in a comedy — variety or music series category for his work on Saturday Night Live. Denis O’Hare, Richard Cabral, Damian Lewis, Michael Kenneth Williams and Finn Wittrock were also up for Sunday’s honor.
