Movies Drew Barrymore shares intel on Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2: 'It is in process' Can we call it "Happy Gilmost"? By Wesley Stenzel Published on April 4, 2024 06:23PM EDT Drew Barrymore is doing the Lord's work: pestering Adam Sandler about the status of a Happy Gilmore sequel. In a preview clip from Friday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress and daytime TV host reveals that she recently contacted her 50 First Dates costar regarding rumors that Sandler has a screenplay written for Happy Gilmore 2. "I want it. I need it and I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison," Barrymore says in the video. "I sent Sandler a video of that, and then he sent me another video back, and I'm waiting to see if he's confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script." Drew Barrymore; Adam Sandler in 'Happy Gilmore'. "This just in, I have breaking news," she says. "I'll just say this, from my source, that it is in process." She reiterates, "There is a process, and that process is in process." Barrymore notes that she was inspired to ask about the project after Christopher McDonald, who played villain Shooter McGavin in the 1996 golf comedy, said that Sandler showed him a script for the sequel. "I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, 'McDonald, you're gonna love this,'" he told Cleveland radio's Ken Carman Show. "I said, 'What?' He says, 'How about that,' and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. Maybe you should cut that out because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, 'Well, that would be awesome.' So it's in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!" EW has reached out to a rep for Sandler for comment. Sandler and Barrymore are longtime friends and have made three rom-com movies together: The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Blended.
