EW's editorial guidelines Published on September 19, 2024 05:09PM EDT Drew Barrymore’s dog Douglas could not get enough of Eva Mendes’ dress during Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. The 14-year-old pooch, who often accompanies Barrymore on the couch during her interviews, became obsessed with the bright pink floral blooms on Mendes’ Stella McCartney dress and repeatedly tried to eat them during their interview — much to Mendes’ amusement. The Drew Barrymore Show/YouTube The first incident occurred while Barrymore was showing Mendes’ new children’s book — titled Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries — to the audience. With Barrymore’s back turned, Douglas quickly seized the opportunity and began munching on Mendes’ dress. “Do you guys see — he’s biting the little… look at the roses,” Mendes said as the crowd began to laugh. “Stella McCartney’s gonna really love this!” The Drew Barrymore Show/YouTube Drew Barrymore and Jeff Bridges have a mini See You in the Morning reunion on talk show: 'It goes so fast' Barrymore did not appear to react to Douglas’ fashionable feast and instead attempted to keep their conversation flowing by pivoting to discuss Mendes’ recent Stella McCartney photoshoot. Mendes, however, could be seen frequently looking down toward Douglas as she simultaneously spoke about the campaign and seemingly tried to distract the dog from doing anymore damage. Douglas, however, remained undeterred and continued to try to feast on the flowers, prompting Mendes to ask the crowd, “You guys seeing this?” At some point, however, Barrymore appears to have run out of patience with her pup’s behavior, because he can be seen banished to the host’s side of the couch, where he promptly fell asleep after his thankless gardening session. However, he woke up just in time to see Barrymore and Mendes stand up as they showed off their calendars and bonded over their mutual love of Wite-Out. No one occupying the couch, however, meant Douglas had a straight shot back to Mendes’ dress. He jumped off the couch and launched one last surprise offensive against the flowers while the pair were preoccupied with their stationery. The Drew Barrymore Show/YouTube Drew Barrymore and Demi Lovato reflect on being given 'substances' as children: 'It's unfathomable' “Douglas!” Barrymore shouted, shooing the dog a safe distance away from a laughing Mendes and her very popular dress. “Douglas! You’re lucky she’s such a good person! She’s been cool with it!” The camera then cut over to the bowtie-wearing Douglas who, to his sweet little credit, did look a bit sheepish after his light scolding on national television. “Excuse me,” Barrymore sweetly added, moving past the still-giggling Mendes toward her side of the couch. Douglas did eventually walk over and receive some pets from Mendes, who forgave him for his transgressions. “Don’t feel bad,” she told him. The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays at 9 a.m. ET/PT on CBS.
