Demi Moore celebrates St. Elmo's Fire anniversary with Charli XCX edit: 'Jules would have loved Brat Girl Summer'

Demi Moore is bumpin’ that.

In an Instagram post Friday, the G.I. Jane star commemorated the 39th anniversary of St. Elmo’s Fire, one of her breakout projects that costarred many of her so-called “Brat Pack” compatriots of ‘80s teen stardom, including Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Nelson.

“Jules would have loved Brat Girl Summer,” she wrote on Instagram. “Happy 39th birthday to #StElmosFire!”

The post included a video of Moore’s character Jules Van Patten set to Charli XCX’s “365,” the closing track to her new album Brat. That album’s popularity has led pop music fans online to declare the summer of 2024 “Brat Girl Summer” or “Brat Summer.”

Moore has more than one reason to observe the season — in addition to seemingly enjoying Charli’s album, the actress also recently appeared in Brats, the new documentary reflecting on the Brat Pack’s heyday in the 1980s.

The actress talked about her experience working on the Andrew McCarthy-directed doc in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I had such a great time sitting down and talking with [McCarthy.] I'm sad there wasn't an opportunity where we were all sitting in a room together, talking," she said."That's my only wish. It's something very unique to all of us that we experienced."

The “Brat Pack” moniker was introduced by a New York magazine article written by David Blum in 1985 — and it wasn’t always welcomed by the group of young actors. "None of us really liked the idea of being called 'brats,' or that we weren't professionals or didn't take our work seriously," Moore told EW. "It was such an interesting, curious thing. We all had different experiences. [The Brat Pack] was very impactful for Andrew, and shifted the direction of his career.”

Charli XCX’s Brat rollout has included a deluxe version of the album with three additional tracks, standalone remixes featuring artists like Lorde and Robyn, and a music video for “360” featuring Julia Fox and Gabbriette (both of whom are shouted out in the song), plus Rachel Sennott, Chloë Sevigny, Hari Nef, and numerous others. The album features several songs about Charli’s complex relationships with other notable artists — fans have speculated that SOPHIE, Lorde, the 1975’s George Daniel, and even Taylor Swift have all been unnamed subjects on Brat.
