Christopher Abbott transforms into a monster in hair-raising Wolf Man trailer

The reboot of the classic 1941 monster tale is in theaters Jan. 17.

Christopher Abbott is terrorized by — and transforms into! — a deadly creature of the night in the trailer for Wolf Man, a reboot of the classic 1941 monster tale with The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell now at the helm.

A new trailer released Friday introduces Abbott as Blake, a San Francisco-based husband and father who inherits his remote Oregon childhood home after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. In an attempt to mend a marriage on the rocks, he persuades his high-powered wife, Charlotte (played by Julia Garner), to take a break from the city and pay a visit to the home with their daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth).

When the family arrives at the home in the dead of night, an unseen animal attacks. The walls of the home are their safe haven as the creature prowls the perimeter. But as "the night stretches on," the synopsis reads, the patriarch "begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable" — and it's up to wife Charlotte to decide whether "the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without."
