Bowen Yang reprises SNL Charli XCX impersonation with pop star herself in hilarious Wicked auditions spoof

Bowen Yang isn't afraid to whip out a good impression — even when the person he's impersonating is standing three feet away.

Since Charlli XCX was pulling double duty as both the host and musical guest on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, Yang took some weight off the "Apple" singer's shoulders by becoming her for the show's Wicked audition sketch, which featured "never-before-seen screen tests" of stars trying out for a part in the upcoming musical film.

Wig and all, Yang reprised his Charli XCX impression from earlier in the season while the singer herself played her pal and Sweat tour co-headliner, Troye Sivan. Together, the dynamic duo tried to land the roles of the movie's beloved witches Glinda and Elphaba.

"Can I call you Elphie?" Yang as Charli asked, to which Charli's Troye replied in a faux Australian accent, "No."

From there, Yang as Charli continued running through lines but seemed a bit lost, reciting, "I only bullied you because I'm a bitch and you're a witch," before stopping and turning to the casting people and saying, "I'm confused."

Replied Charli's equally confused Troye, "I'm not a witch, I'm a top."

Elsewhere in the sketch, various SNL cast members showed off their own impersonations of celebs trying to score a coveted gig in Wicked.

Chloe Fineman kicked things off as JoJo Siwa, sporting the memorable sparkly look from her "Karma" music video. After singing a few lines from the Glinda ballad “Popular,” Fineman as Siwa referenced a lyric from Siwa's own song, saying, "I may be a good witch, but I'm still a bad girl."

Charli then flaunted her comedy chops with an impression of Adele, chatting and laughing away like the "Skyfall" singer does in viral clips from her Las Vegas residency. After asking if she could remove her shoes, Charli's Adele kicked off her high heels and celebrated her newfound freedom by saying, "Wicked."

A second later, she cracked up, realizing, "Oh my God, I said the name of the bloody movie! Shut up! That's f---ing funny." Charli then delivered her best impression of Adele's cackling laugh.

The sketch also featured Devon Walker as Shannon Sharpe, Sarah Sherman as Bernie Sanders, Dana Carvey as Al Pacino, and Marcello Hernández as Bad Bunny. Ego Nwodim played Janet Jackson, who came in, asked what she was auditioning for, and upon hearing the movie's title said, "I don't want to be in this," and walked away. 

Fineman appeared again, this time as Martha Stewart, speaking in her signature deadpan tone, "Some people are born wicked, while others have wickedness thrust upon them. You know, someone thrust upon me once… a wonderful Irishman."

Yang previously celebrated Charli and "Brat Summer" by appearing on SNL in full Charli drag — blown out curls, distressed pleather minidress, massive black sunglasses — to host The Talk Talk Show With Charli XCX, a play on the singer's Brat song "Talk Talk." In response, Charli said she was not the least bit irritated to see Yang debut his impersonation of her — instead, she was fairly "impressed."

"I think SNL is iconic, and Troye and I, we had an inkling it was coming," Charli said during an October appearance on The Howard Stern Show. "We were very excited about it, and I love Bowen, and honestly I think he did a great job."

She added, "I was very impressed with the hair texture actually. I thought it was a really good wig."
