Bel-Air renewed for fourth and final season: 'The family is coming back'

Will, Carlton, Hilary, and the gang are giving it one more go.

Bel-Air, the dramatic reimagining of ’90s sitcom fave The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will live to floss for one more season.

Peacock announced today that Bel-Air was renewed for its fourth and final season, with the cast sharing the news in an Instagram post.

In the post, Jabari Banks (Will), Olly Sholotan (Carlton), Adrian Holmes (Uncle Phil), Akira Akbar (Ashley), Cassandra Freeman (Aunt Viv), Coco Jones (Hilary), and Jimmy Akingbola (Geoffrey) announce that the "family is coming back."

The reimagining of the series came courtesy of a four-minute trailer by Kansas City filmmaker Morgan Cooper in 2019 that struck a much darker tone than the sitcom that launched Will Smith to superstardom.

"They're two different takes on these characters," Cooper told Entertainment Weekly in 2022. "You can't make The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air again. What they did is beyond words. It's so legendary [that] you would never try."

Over the course of its run, Bel-Air has paid homage to the original with guest stars including Tatyana Ali, who played the precocious Ashley Banks; Joseph Marcell, the OG Geoffrey; Vernee Watson-Johnson (Will's mom, Viola "Vy" Smith); and Daphne Maxwell Reid (the second Aunt Viv, following Janet Hubert's exit after season 3).

Other guest stars have included Bianca Belair, Bill Bellamy, Justin Cornwell, Andra Day, Melissa De Sousa, Nicholas Duvernay, Dulé Hill, Anna Maria Horsford, April Parker Jones, Melanie Liburd, Jazlyn Martin, Vic Mensa, DK Metcalf, Saweetie, Alycia Pascual-Peña, David Ramsey, Karrueche Tran, Joivan Wade, and Marlon Wayans.

Last season saw Will out of school for the summer and doing Bel-Air his way as he finds a new perspective living with his wealthy relatives. Will made an exciting pivot and found a partner in Carlton, who desperately wanted to leave his life of addiction behind and rebuild his damaged reputation. And while the dynamic duo had a lot of exciting wins, working together also revealed fundamental differences in their backgrounds and worldviews.

Pressure at work and home posed challenges for Viv and Phil, while Hilary’s romantic journey with LaMarcus (Justin Cornwell) faced some shocking hurdles. Ashley’s views on romance started to blossom as she came of age the summer before she started high school, and Geoffrey’s London past came a little too close to home.

The fourth and final season of Bel-Air is "coming soon," though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
