TV Article Charli XCX After the Afterparty music video is a sugar rush By Joey Nolfi Joey Nolfi Entertainment Weekly's Oscars expert, 'RuPaul's Drag Race' beat reporter, host of 'Quick Drag' Twitter Spaces, and cohost of 'EW's BINGE' podcast. Almost all of the drag content on this site is my fault (you're welcome). EW's editorial guidelines Published on October 30, 2016 07:27PM EDT The sugary-sweet sounds of Charli XCX’s latest single “After the Afterparty” got an appropriately candy-coated treatment in the song’s new music video, which debuted Sunday afternoon. XCX, 24, struts through a field amid a pack of bubblegum zombies as the clip opens, later toying with a giant severed hand, splashing around in a pool of bubbles, and dancing atop a pink couch as Lil Yachty raps his verses. The single marks the first release from the U.K. native’s upcoming third studio album, due out in the first half of 2017. On the project, scheduled to be her first major release since dropping the Vroom Vroom EP in February, XCX is working with Scottish producer SOPHIE and Norwegian production duo Stargate (Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Rihanna). The pop star discussed working on “the best pop album of 2017” during an August interview with The Fader. “I didn’t want to make just an album with SOPHIE, and I didn’t want to make just an album with Stargate,” XCX told the publication. “I wanted to make an album with SOPHIE and Stargate. Sure, some of SOPHIE’s records are a little harsh and off-the-wall, but the goal is to be making progressive pop music.” Watch the “After the Afterparty” music video above. The single is available now on iTunes and Spotify. Close
