Dancing With the Stars: Cheryl Burke returns to work after Ryan Lochte attack

It’s back to work for Cheryl Burke.

Burke is expected to participate in a morning rehearsal for Dancing with the Stars todayafter two men stormed the stage of the premiere Monday to protest her partner, Ryan Lochte.

The men, whose names were not released, were booked for criminal trespassing at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. Wearing shirts with Lochte’s name crossed out, they rushed the stage after Burke and Lochte performed their first dance to the song “Call Me Irresponsible.”

Several other men and women who wore the same shirts remained in the audience while shouting “liar” to Lochte. Pro Derek Hough was the first cast member to confront the group and order them to leave.

Meanwhile, more footage has emerged of the two protesters — one of whom appears more interested in addressing the crowd than Lochte directly.

ABC and Lochte have faced intense scrutiny ever since it was announced that the gold medalist — who admitted to lying about a robbery incident in Rio de Janerio this summer — would compete this season. He was suspended by the International Olympic Committee for 10 months and forced to give up $100,000 in bonuses. He will miss the 2017 world swimming championships.

It’s unclear for now whether additional security measures will be instituted after Monday’s attack. The show, which tapes at the CBS Television Studios at Beverly Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, requires all audience members to walk through metal detectors before taking their seats within the soundstage.

The 23rd season premiere of DWTS averaged 13.7 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49. It beat the finales of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, which tapes on the same lot as DWTS.

DWTS was up from its spring 2016 premiere (12.5 million and 1.8 rating) and its year-ago September premiere (13.2 million and a 2.1 rating).
