The clip, released Wednesday, introduces Beckinsale as Lady Susan Vernon, a widow who retreats to her in-laws’ estate as a means to escape circulating rumors about her social life. While there, she attempts to find a suitable partner for her daughter, Frederica (Morfydd Clark), and herself. The film, adapted from Jane Austen’s Lady Susan, features a supporting cast that includes Chloë Sevigny as Alicia Johnson, Xavier Samuel as Reginald DeCourcy, and Stephen Fry as Mr. Johnson. Love & Friendship marked another film acquisition by Amazon Studios last year, ahead of the distributor’s purchase of Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea for a reported $10 million at January’s Sundance Film Festival. Amazon will partner with Roadside Attractions to release both films later this year, with Love & Friendship opening the 59th Annual San Francisco International Film Festival on April 21 ahead of its May 13 theatrical bow, while Manchester by the Sea will open on Nov. 18.
