And now, the show that will serve as a sequel to 2010’s hit animated film — which was loosely based on the Rapunzel fairy tale — has added a few more actors to its cast: 17, to be precise. Tuesday’s news brings aboard not only three more cast members from the feature film — Jeffrey Tambor as Big Nose, Paul F. Tompkins as Shorty and M.C. Gainey as Captain of the Guard — but also Ashley Judd as Rapunzel’s mother, Queen Arianna. Wicked‘s Eden Espinosa will play Rapunzel’s handmaiden, Cassandra; Jeff Ross will tackle the role of Hook Hand’s brother, Hook Foot; and Richard Kind will voice Uncle Monty in this show, whose events take place after Tangled but before the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After. Tangled: Before Ever After will also feature: Sean Hayes as Pete the Guard; Peter MacNicol as Nigel the Advisor; Jeremy Jordan as teen alchemist Varian; Jonathan Banks as Varian’s father, Quirin; Diedrich Bader as Stan the Guard; Charles Halford as Pub Thug Vladimir; Steve Blum as Pub Thug Attila Buckethead; and James Monroe Iglehart as Eugene’s friend, Lance Strongbow. M.C. Gainey won’t be the only cast member with a Lost connection: Clancy Brown has come aboard as Rapunzel’s father, King Frederic, while Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will voice blacksmith Xavier. Scheduled to debut in 2017, Tangled: Before Ever After chronicles the adventures of Rapunzel as she “acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom, and the citizens of Corona.” The show, which is being executive produced by Chris Sonnenberg (Enchanted), will include music by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, who created the movie’s original score.
