TV Article Tony Hawk rides a hoverboard (for real this time, ostensibly) By Jonathon Dornbush Published on November 18, 2014 12:00PM EST After ruining the dreams of every Back to the Future fan earlier this year, Tony Hawk is once again trying to sell the masses on hoverboard technology.Only this time, it’s real. Helping to promote the Hendo Hover, Hawk appeared in a video to take a few spins on what purports to be the world’s first real hoverboard. The board’s creators have spoken of the device as something meant to improve quality of life with practical and useful applications. Tony Hawk demonstrates that the board is also useful for pulling off sweet 360-degree turns—after a little practice, of course. Hendo looks to be the real deal, as Hawk released the video on his official Ride YouTube channel, though skepticism is understandable. Earlier this year, Hawk participated in a Funny or Die video—originally released without mention of the website’s involvement—purporting to show off the first true hoverboard. The Hendo board has more than met its Kickstarter goal, but those hoping to purchase one are momentarily out of luck—the $10,000 tier that nets backers an actual board is currently sold out. However, there are plenty of other options still available, including an option to purchase some of the technology that Hendo has used to build their board. Of course, this all could also be a marketing ploy for the next Tony Hawk video game, which the skater recently revealed is in development. Perhaps Tony Hawk: Advanced Skatefare will make everything better with hoverboards. Close
