Golden Globes 2013: Inside after-parties

Near-freezing temps were no match for Sunday night Globe winners such as Quentin Tarantino and celebrities like Selena Gomez, who were determined to keep the party going following the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards.

Full of booze and ravenous for food, stars flocked to several bashes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel just after the awards ceremony, from HBO’s soiree at the downstairs Circa 55 restaurant and The Weinstein Company’s party at the old Trader Vic’s, to the NBC-Focus Features-Universal’s rooftop shindig, Warner Bros. InStyle‘s huge party in the Oasis Courtyard, and Fox’s tented bash just outside the hotel.

HBO continued its years-long streak of sophisticated decorations — this year, black-and-white themed tablecloths and vases of pink flowers — for guests like Jon Hamm and his longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt. Hamm was seen joking and laughing with his fellow best TV actor nominee Steve Buscemi while Robert Pattinson smiled with friends and hung out by a bar near the restaurant’s patio, dotted with heat lamps.

The music featured a few Etta James scorchers along with other jazz and soul tunes. Globe winner Julianne Moore, gleaming after snagging the best actress in a TV miniseries trophy for HBO’s Game Change, did an impromptu shimmy with fellow Game Change actress Sarah Paulson in the party’s lobby. Louis C.K., Helen Mirren, and bodyguard-flanked P. Diddy all slinked through the crowd. And Jane Fonda, looking younger than her years in a shoulder-bearing gown and black choker, was seated at a table with Sam Waterson and Jeff Daniels. Jeremy Irons and Sally Field separately went over and chatted with Fonda, who stayed put in her seat.

With a DJ spinning the likes of Rihanna, early Rolling Stones, and Maroon 5, the Weinstein bash boasted a much younger crowd, and a totally wild dance floor. Tarantino held court at a corner couch with a young, tall blonde lady friend, wrapping his arms around her and dancing while celebrating his best screenplay win for Django Unchained. The writer-director seemed completely content, without concern for controversy (backstage press balked at his use of the n-word). “It’s been lovely!” Tarantino told EW of his win, drink in hand, musing that he would possibly stop by one other party. Guests chomped on fries and mini burgers provided by Fatburger, and small, sweet brownies.

In a corner booth, a cheery Gomez — no Justin Bieber by her side — looked Globes-worthy in a sexy, short gold Atelier Versace dress. She sang, grinned, shook her long hair and waved her arms in the air to “Tainted Love,” surrounded by Josh Hutcherson, her Spring Breakers co-star Vanessa Hudgens, and Hudgens’ High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale, also singing and dancing. Bryan Cranston and Emile Hirsch passed each other at the door, the former on his way out as the latter arrived.

Meanwhile, at the nearby Fox bash, Dev Patel enjoyed a slew of delicious eats with his love Freida Pinto, and the NBC-Universal-Focus Features party featured the Globe-loaded cast of Les Miserables, plus Jessica Chastain, gleeful for her Zero Dark Thirty best actress win.

Finally, the always-packed Warner Bros. InStyle party pushed forward into the wee hours, and teeth-chattering cold. Argo best director and best picture drama winner Ben Affleck ducked out of the festivities close to midnight, hand-in-hand with wife Jennifer Garner. They were swiftly led out of a side entrance. Despite early call times, TV actors and actresses at the party stayed up dancing, sipping champagne, and eating mashed potatoes, roast turkey, and desserts galore (cookies, miniature stuffed treats) above a giant chandelier of glittering streamers. “I have a 6 a.m. call time,” Revenge‘s Connor Paolo told EW. “I’m a spry guy!” Homeland‘s Morena Baccarin, happy for her show’s best TV drama series win, but completely exhausted, literally leaned on her hubby. “My heels are high enough that I’m ready to leave!” she said.

Added Baccarin’s Homeland co-star Diego Klattenhoff later, “No one knew us last year. Now screams left and right.” No early morning call times for Klattenhoff, however. Homeland‘s third season doesn’t film until May or June, he said. That left the actor, breaking out some nifty dance moves, to party all night long.
