TV Article Casting Net: Evan Rachel Wood in talks to play female trucker By Solvej Schou Published on August 28, 2012 12:00PM EDT • Lithe rebel Evan Rachel Wood is in talks to star as a female trucker in 18 Wheel Butterfly, a road movie set in 1977 Texas with Twin Falls Idaho‘s Michael Polish attached to direct. Scribed by Christian Divine, it’s slated as having a Thelma and Louise feel. Wood would take on the role of falsely accused Rainbeaux, who flees from law enforcement, bounty hunters and other truckers. The movie sounds like a perfect fit for Wood, known for her snarling charm on True Blood and as an intern in last year’s The Ides of March. [Variety] • Jennifer Jason Leigh has joined the in-production cast of The Spectacular Now, starring Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller and Brie Larson, about a high schooler, played by Teller, who decides to woo an introverted social outcast, played by Woodley. Leigh is taking on the role of Teller’s character’s mom. James Ponsoldt is directing from a script co-written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (500 Days of Summer), adapting from Tim Tharp’s novel. [Variety] • Frances Fisher, known for her roles in Titanic and Unforgiven, is set to be in Plush, about a married mom and rocker who goes downhill after her band mate dies of a drug overdose. Catherine Hardwicke is directing, with Emily Browning in the lead rock mom role. Fisher will play Browning’s nanny.
