Just ask Jim Carrey, who sweated it out in painful leafy colored latex for his latest role as the Grinch. EW Online has Carrey’s complaints and other angst from Hollywood’s long suffering cultural elite. ? ”About two weeks in, I was having a lot of trouble with the Grinch suit, so they brought a guy in who actually teaches people how to handle torture, and he gave me a couple of tips. You just forget [the pain]. Sitting around in that suit was not too fun, but performing in it was amazing. I can be as uncomfortable as I want, but when somebody says action, it’s like going into another reality.” JIM CARREY on playing the Grinch in ”Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (opening in November) ? ”I don’t like to leave the house except to go to the golf course. I take the cart out, play a little golf, and drive back. That’s my idea of a good day.” ”Space Cowboys” star JAMES GARNER on the daily grind of semiretirement ? ”A serious factor is how many bills I have to pay.” ”Space Cowboys” star TOMMY LEE JONES on his practical rules for choosing roles ? ”I think when you go and have a baby in Hollywood, you might as well have taken a trip to Mars because you’re light years out of people’s minds. So this is the beginning of the road back. Considering that my career is not very large by any means, I would say that it’s just the road onwards.” ”Family Man” star TEA LEONI on returning to work a year after giving birth to daughter Madelaine West Duchovny ? ”That’s her reputation because of the sucking press. Everybody says ‘Oh, she’s terrible I hear.’ Well, if she’s terrible, then I am a monkey’s uncle. She went on that asshole David Letterman’s show, and everybody talked about her like she’s insecure. But from my standpoint I couldn’t have a better person in my movie.” Director ROBERT ALTMAN weighing in on the reputation of ’70s icon Farrah Fawcett, who stars in his film ”Dr. T and the Women” (opening Oct. 6) ?”My inability to hold a job kind of forced me into comedy. I can’t be nowhere 8-5, five days a week. Three of them days I ain’t gonna make it. And one of them days I’m gonna need a sick day. My employee record sort of pushed me into comedy.STEVE HARVEY on his chosen profession ? ”The only time I put Captain Stubing’s uniform on is when I do ‘Letterman.’ Dave always says, ‘Doesn’t he ever take that thing off?’ Well, they’re the ones that get it for me! I don’t walk around the streets with that thing on.” GAVIN MACLEOD, who recently guest starred as a cardinal on the HBO series ”Oz,” on life after ”The Love Boat” ? ”I’ve had so many accidents in my life that I’m totally convinced I have a guardian angel who is just fatigued. My life has been one accident after another, and the fact I’m not dead yet and only missing parts of my fingers is the true testimony of that.” ADRIAN PASDAR, star of NBC’s ”Mysterious Ways,” on his eerie ability to avoid death and dismemberment Close
