EW's editorial guidelines Updated on July 12, 2024 05:08PM EDT Abigail Breslin claims that she’s received death threats over a social media post in support of Kesha that fans interpreted as shading Katy Perry for collaborating with Dr. Luke on a new song. “I’m just saying... working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent s--- and get away with it,” the actress wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. “On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows ive ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!” Perry has received backlash online all week for working with Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) on the newly-released female empowerment track "Woman’s World" given that Kesha accused him of drugging and raping her, as well as longterm emotional and psychological abuse, in a 2014 lawsuit. While her lawsuit was dismissed in 2016, a defamation countersuit filed by Gottwald against the "TiK ToK" singer continued on for nearly a decade before it was ultimately settled out of court in June 2023. I didn't say anything awful, everyone calm down,” she wrote. “I said I dont support abusers. crucify me. and I also never said I have an amazing music career. God... calm down.” The Little Miss Sunshine star described herself in a separate post as “a long time advocate” against sexual assault and domestic violence, adding, “I'm not gonna stop speaking out about it regardless of how many of you tell me to im worthless and disgusting and awful.” Breslin also replied to several comments from users that called her negative names, used punching GIFs, and claimed that she was using Perry’s name for clout to further her career. She wrote, “So I made a post condemning abusers and supporting an artist I love... and apparently that means receiving death threats... cool.” Katy Perry real estate battle inspires a bill to protect elders from financial abuse Breslin reposted several people who offered words of support amid the fervor before signing off for the evening. “Alright. goodnight everybody. im not gonna stop speaking out against abuse. I never said a negative thing about your fave. please relax,” she concluded. “im allowed to have a perspective. youre allowed to roast my career and treat me horribly but idk why you would. I stand by what I said. gn”
