EW's editorial guidelines Published on July 2, 2024 04:42PM EDT Joey King knows all about how personal assistants go above and beyond their job description in Hollywood, just like her character in A Family Affair. In her new Netflix comedy directed by P.S. I Love You's Richard LaGravenese, King plays Zara, the frustrated and spread-too-thin personal assistant for mega movie star Chris Cole (Zac Efron). After fielding one too many ridiculous demands from Chris, Zara angrily quits, leaving Chris to realize how much he relies on her. So he goes to her house to try to convince her to come back to work, and while there, he unexpectedly finds himself falling in love with her mother, Brooke (Nicole Kidman). Romantic — and professional — hijinks ensue as the trio attempts to navigate their complicated new dynamic. And it didn't take much for King to get into character because she can easily recall when her own assistant became "Superwoman" for her. Joey King and Zac Efron in 'A Family Affair'. Netflix Zac Efron says Joey King's 'Matthew Perry-esque' physical comedy impressed him in A Family Affair "Oh my God, shout out to Eva, Eva in Romania," King tells Entertainment Weekly. "Hi, Eva! Eva was my assistant when I was filming this show called We Were the Lucky Ones. I adopted my dog Fable in Romania and I had to get her back to the U.S., and Eva — this is, like, so beyond the description of what her job was — helped me with all the paperwork, getting everything sorted." King looks back on her assistant's hard work in amazement because the outcome changed her life. "It was a huge job, and she took care of everything," she adds. "So I'm able to have my dog with me in the States now because Eva worked so hard to make that happen. So thank you, Eva; I love you." Nicole Kidman, Joey King, and Zac Efron in 'A Family Affair'.
