Last week's episode of 9-1-1 ended with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) breaking up with Buck (Oliver Stark). (And Ryan Guzman's Eddie shaving his mustache and dancing around his living room in his underwear...but we digress.) And tonight — on season 8, episode 7, "Hotshots" — we'll see Buck's coping mechanism: baking. "Since when do you make Baked Alaska?" Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) asks her brother in the preview clip, exclusive to Entertainment Weekly. "Since Tommy dumped me I've been on this baking kick," Buck replies. "Any time I get the urge to call him, I just channel the impulse into something positive." 9-1-1's Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman break down that Risky and touching 'Buddie' final moment That results in lemon loaf, and walnut loaf, and pumpkin loaf... "I don't know that this qualifies as a more positive response," Maddie observes. "Maybe you should start thinking about what's next instead of what's past." Chimney (Kenneth Choi) recommends Buck "jump back in the pond." But, coming out of his first relationship with a man after realizing he is bisexual, Buck reveals he doesn't know "what pond to jump back into." While Buck is contemplating other fish in the sea, Maddie is doing her best to keep her shellfish aversion a secret. Newly pregnant, the 911 operator first turns down Buck's offer of wine and later panics when he reveals that he's prepared her "favorite," baked brie. Will he buy her refusal of soft cheeses? Following last week's episode, Stark teased to EW that something like his baking habit may be in the cards: "Buck is very much going to look to channel his heartbreak into positive hobbies, pretty much to an obsessive degree, which is noticed by a few people around him and presents some lighthearted and fun scenes for the cast," he said. "In typical Buck fashion, he's going to keep moving forward and find a way to cope with it. The cracks will probably start to appear, but certainly to begin with, the mask and the facade is going to be very much one of 'I'm okay.'" 9-1-1 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
