Blacklist Rivalry embraces a unique approach for the Riyadh Masters at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia
Ahead of the Riyadh Masters, Blacklist Rivalry presented a unique viewpoint during an exclusive media conference. While other teams prioritize prestige and prize winnings, Blacklist Rivalry emphasizes a different ethos: enjoying the game and giving their utmost effort.
A Refreshing Perspective
When asked if the prize pool made them more determined to win the tournament, Team captain Abed “Abed” Yusop articulated the team’s philosophy—while the other teams might eye for the prize pool, Blacklist Rivalry remains focused on enjoying the game, give their best, and win, “Para sa akin, the prize pool is something that I look at after the tournament. Going to the tournament, ang goal lang is manalo; bonus na lang yung prize pool [For me, it’s like all tournaments are the same. I still do my best even though the prize pool is small].”
Jaunuel “Jaunuel” Arcilla, one of the team’s players, further elaborated on how this mindset has positively impacted the team’s dynamic, “Para sa akin, personally, parang same lang naman lahat ng tournament. Ginagawa ko pa rin ‘yung best ko kahit maliit yung prize pool [For me, it’s like all tournaments are the same. I still do my best even though the prize pool is small].”
Embracing the Journey
New coach Kim “DuBu” Doo-young shared that showing how much he is committed to the tournament and the team at large by trying to improve together is what matters most.
The team further reiterated that they are focused on refining their skills and strategies but are also making sure to enjoy the process, keeping the team relaxed and allowing them to perform without the added pressure of focusing solely on the end goal.
The Esports World Cup is a remarkable celebration of esports and gaming, with 22 tournaments spanning 21 different video game titles from July to August and a whooping total prize pool of over $60 million. Notable matches include the Dota 2 Riyadh Masters, the PUBG Mobile World Cup, and the Mobile Legends Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup (MSC).
As the Riyadh Masters approaches, BlackList Rivalry aims to showcase its skills and deliver memorable matches, with hopes to land a group stage spot during the Play-Ins beginning on July 4.
