⚠ In our ongoing Porsche 964 series, we've observed an imbalance in the lift distribution of this model, which could contribute to potential high-speed instabilities. Last week we reviewed the development process of our #Porsche 964, let’s summarize now the results of our design process: ◾  The tide turns in our favour: now the Porsche 911 (964) generates overall downforce at max ride height with a minor increase in drag. ◾ While not yet perfect, the lift distribution marks a significant step towards achieving aerodynamic balance, addressing the notorious challenge of high-speed oversteer inherent to the Porsche 911 (964). ◾ The aerobalance, while still shy of perfection, is clearly shifted towards reducing rear lift, improving stability and control. In our previous post from the #Porsche #964 aerodynamics series, we analyzed the #CFD results from the baseline model and identified key challenges—most notably, the forward-biased lift (un)balance that led to high-speed instability. We conducted multiple iterations focused on the front bumper, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler to enhance performance. Our efforts aimed to: ◾ Shift the center of pressure rearward ◾ Increase downforce levels ◾ Balance performance with aesthetics tailored to customer preferences. At #VFluid, we believe in developing products efficiently by prioritizing the integration of CFD simulations with experimental testing. In collaboration with our partner, Deflect Inc., we conducted wind tunnel tests to ensure our simulation results aligned with real-world conditions. This was also possible thanks to the experience and dedication from the team at Technische Universität Berlin #TUBerlin. By replicating the wind tunnel geometry and simulating it in CFD using our proprietary mesh and solver settings in #StarCCM+, the results revealed a strong correlation both in force measurements and pressure tap readings, providing Deflect Inc. with the confidence they needed in the promising performance of the #RoofRider and #SideRider. 🚗 Our Porsche 911 (964) Through CFD Simulations – Initial Results and Findings In our previous post of the Porsche 911 (964) aerodynamics series, we discussed how the real car was transformed into a detailed CAD model through scanning and the importance of this process. Today, we present the results from the initial CFD simulations, assessing its aerodynamic performance and identifying potential areas for improvement. 📊 The baseline simulation show the following results: - Cd = 0.351  - Cl = 0.161 (positive lift) It is evident these metrics fall short compared to modern aerodynamic standards. ⚠️ More worrying than the overall Cl number is that the lift generation is entirely unbalanced as the lift accumulation (left graph) shows.
