GMV has successfully completed the FASTNAV project, funded by the European Space Agency - ESA under the General Support Technology Program (GSTP) and supported by the UK Space Agency (UKSA). FASTNAV has developed a breakthrough navigation solution, enabling lunar rovers to reach unprecedented speeds of 1 m/s, setting a new milestone for future lunar exploration. This innovative system has a guidance, navigation and control (GNC) system and combines computer vision with artificial intelligence, allowing rovers to autonomously navigate challenging lunar terrains at high speed without stopping, extending their range to over 20 km in a single lunar day. Today, we were at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Villanueva de la Cañada (Madrid) for the presentation of the Proba-3 mission, a milestone for high-precision satellite formation flying. This mission will enable groundbreaking scientific research, including an artificial eclipse to study the solar corona. Our Space Strategy and Business Development Director, Mariella Graziano, joined the “Participation of Spanish companies in Proba-3” roundtable highlighting Spain’s leadership through Sener Aerospace & Defence and a consortium that includes GMV. At GMV, we’re developing the Formation Flying Subsystem (FFS) and are responsible for monitoring and flight control components within the Flight Dynamics System, covering orbit determination, event prediction, and maneuver computation. Additionally, we design and validate the on-board function that uses GPS measurements for relative satellite positioning.
