Here’s how I reignite motivation: ↳ Reconnect with purpose: Explore their “why” behind their career goals to uncover deeper meaning. ↳ Celebrate small wins: Highlight past achievements to remind them of their capabilities. ↳ Set micro-goals: Break down their vision into simple, actionable steps to create momentum. Focusing on purpose and progress shifts their mindset from stuck to inspired.

If the client lacks motivation in a coaching session, then it's possible that they feel they do not see any results- yet. I would be inclined to park the coaching and share openly that for a short period, you will drive the coaching towards something that places a smile on their face and a happy skip in their heart, i.e. a memory from the past, an experience in their life, a past encounter. Note the words they use to describe the memory and be alert to read their eyes. Allow them to wallow in that moment. Then, professionally, have them acknowledge if it is okay to revert back to the career coaching. It does not have to get any more complex than this. We all have off days, and a happy memory makes us feel good- right?

To ignite your client's drive for success during a career coaching session, start by identifying their core values, passions, and long-term goals. Use these insights to highlight how achieving their career objectives aligns with their personal aspirations. Help them break down their larger goals into manageable, achievable steps to build momentum. Share success stories or examples of individuals who have overcome similar challenges, inspiring them to see the possibilities. Encourage self-reflection and positive reinforcement, while reminding them of their unique strengths and past accomplishments. Finally, create a clear action plan with regular checkpoints to keep them engaged and motivated.

If your client lacks motivation, it could be that they’re fighting their natural rhythm. Pay attention to when they’re most productive, some are early birds, others thrive at night. Help them identify tasks they dive into without being asked and show how they can align their work schedule with their energy peaks. Encourage batching similar tasks to make work feel more effortless. By working with their natural flow, you can reignite their motivation and help them reclaim their drive for success. When did work last feel easy for them?

When a client lacks motivation, I start by reconnecting them with their "why" the deeper purpose behind their goals. I help them visualize what success looks like and how it could transform their life. Then, I focus on small wins to build momentum and remind them that progress, no matter how small, creates motivation. Lastly, I ensure they leave the session with clear, actionable steps so they feel empowered and ready to take control of their journey.
