[edit]From Proto-Tai *qraj (“egg”). Cognate with Thai ไข่ (kài), Northern Thai ᨡᩱ᩵ (khai), Lao ໄຂ່ (khai), Lü ᦺᦃᧈ (ẋay¹), Shan ၶႆႇ (khài), Ahom 𑜁𑜩 (khay), Zhuang gyaeq. Compare Sui geis (“egg”) and Southern Kam geiv (“egg”).
