[edit]Probably a resultant noun of lost Proto-Slavic *lu- (“thrust, poke”) + -на (-na), attested with s-mobile in Bulgarian хлу́я (hlúja, “to raid, to charge in”). If correct, then related to Serbo-Croatian олу́ја (“whirlwind”).
