[edit]The name "plaquemines," in French Creole, was derived from the Atakapa word, piakimin, meaning the local fruit persimmon.
Proper noun
[edit]- One of 64 parishes in Louisiana, United States, the equivalent of a county in other US states. The parish seat is in Pointe à la Hache.
