Bad quotation?

[edit]

The quotation, "Held by the tenure of his will alone" is a metaphorical use of the word "tenure" which, while it does reflect the usage of the word, doesn't align with the definition provided. Should we supplement it with a more literal usage?

What comes to mind is "...the independence, and the reasonable security of tenure, of the professorial office." via [1]
