ဆက်

Burmese

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *ʔ-dzakᴸ (to join), from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s-dza-k (to join, connect, build). Cognate with Lhao Vo xo', Manipuri [script needed] (sha, to build) (STEDT chak "join"). Despite semantic similarity and phonetic similarity in its descendant forms, Chinese (, “continue, carry on”) appears to be unrelated.
