United States Presidential election, 2008

Hi - i see you're picking up some of the threads from the GA review i did a little while back, including removing that long table of demographic data. Some of that data, including its source, might be useful to be discussed in the analysis section of the main article. It may be worth pasting the table onto the article talk page so that editors can use it while working on the analysis, and also on descriptions of some of those interpretive maps. cheers. hamiltonstone (talk) 04:04, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Those are good points. I'd paste it onto the talk page, but I really don't have the time and won't for a few days. Thanks for informing me of the possible uses, though. I'll look into it more when I have time. Timmeh! 01:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Adoption

I guess I'm yours then! Nomad2u2001 (talk) 23:16, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Great! First you have to let me know what you do know about Wikipedia so far, and then I can help you learn about our core policies and become an established and knowledgeable contributor. Timmeh! 23:45, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Well I do know how to edit, which I've done quite a bit. I do however want a kicka** page like you have but the script is getting me (not a copy though). I've been following wikipedia for some time so I know about deletion policies and stuff like that. But I am a basic editor and it takes me forever to find different things like putting pictures in an infobox and other advanced editing features.Nomad2u2001 (talk) 03:21, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

You are free to copy my code, as long as you change the colors. I'm not very good with making complex userpages, but you might want to take a look at the user page design center to find out what design you'd like and how to implement it.
Also, don't forget to use edit summaries to let other editors know what you're changing in an article. You can also reply to comments on talk pages by simply adding a colon (or multiple colons) on the next line after the end of a comment to indent yours and show that you're replying to a specific person. I'm not sure if you know about the five pillars yet; basically, they are the core principles of Wikipedia that every editor should abide by. Important parts of these include civility, neutral POV, verifiability, and the no original research policy. Every fact that could be disputed should be backed by reliable sources, cited in the text.
If you are into AfD discussions, that's a great way to participate and help out here. You may also nominate articles for deletion. Of course, content and article building are most helpful to the encyclopedia. If you're working on an article, it should be one of your main goals to make it a good article, and even a featured article if you think you can make it that good quality. It's also helpful to review good article nominees, which are listed here, as there is often a large backlog of nominees waiting to be reveiwed. Maybe you've come across some automated tools already. They are used to help make editing tasks a bit easier and faster, especially complex ones. Such tool include Twinkle and navigation popups for generic editing tasks and huggle for reverting vandalism.
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Timmeh! 20:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Adminship

Hey Timmeh, how you been? As much I appreciate you considering me to be an Administrator, I'm gonna have to decline the offer. Its a year since my first Rfa failed and I need to work on various things (Admin stuff) before a second one takes place. Hopefully, in the future, I'll be ready to show other's I've improved since my last Rfa. But, not now. Sorry. P.S. "Rough Landing, Holly" passed GA, which means that we can nominate the song, along with "Lights and Sounds" and Lights and Sounds to GTC. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

It's a disappointment that you don't feel you're ready for adminship. I feel that you're ready, and I'm sure you'd pass if you were to try another RfA now. I believe the main reason your RfA failed last time was because of your answers to the questions. Are you sure you don't want to give it another try? Anyway, keep up the great work you're doing, and don't hesitate to ask me for a nomination when you decide you're ready. Also, that's great that we got Lights and Sounds nominated for GT. Hopefully it'll pass. Timmeh! 20:20, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Believe me, I felt I was ready with my first Rfa, but it turns out that I really wasn't. I signed up for admin coaching and still pending for someone to help me out with the areas that I need work the most. Though, I did get around working on other topics, besides wrestling. After that, I'll consider for a second try, and hopefully your offer stands around that time. :) Yeah, the questions are what mostly got me; I was "rushed" to answer them, since a user did leave me a note saying that if I didn't respond to them immediately, I would receive opposes. Also, some of the questions that were asked to me were really bizarre; Like, "what would I do if another admin. decides to start vandalizing someone's user page", that one really took me by storm. I'm positive I want to wait. There's that saying that the second time around is better or something. Yeah, I set up everything and here's the page to check on the progress. I'm crossing my fingers that the GT passes. :P --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll be glad to nominate you when you're ready. Just keep up the amazing article work you've been doing. Timmeh!(review me) 00:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Unfortunately, my RFA was closed recently with a final tally of 75½/38/10. Though it didn't succeed, I wanted to thank you for your support and I hope I can count on it in the future. Even though it didn't pass, it had a nearly 2 to 1 ratio of support and I am quite encouraged by those results. I intend to review the support, oppose, and neutral !votes and see what I can do to address those concerns that were brought up and resubmit in a few months. If you would like to assist in my betterment and/or co-nominate me in the future, please let me know on my talk page. Special thanks go to Schmidt, MICHAEL Q., TomStar81, and henrik for their co-nominations and support. — BQZip01 — talk

Hi there,

I've nominated another article: Fantasy Black Channel.

I've followed every bit of your review advice from the last two times so I'm hoping it won't need any edits whatsoever, maybe some very minor MoS.

ThankSpam

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 13:13, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Majorly's RFA

Please don't feel the need to reply to every opposer on Majorly's RFA. As I know arguably better than anyone other than Lara and Shalom, thinking that he's unsuitable for adminship is a perfectly valid position, whether or not you agree with it; hassling anyone who opposes isn't going to change anyone's mind, and just causes drama for drama's sake. As you can see from pretty much any RFA in the last three years, Majorly is extremely capable of replying to opposers himself if he feels the need. – iridescent 23:43, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not replying to every opposer, just to those whose claims to facts seem skewed. And don't worry; I don't have the time, patience, or willingness to reply to any great number of opposers. Timmeh!(review me) 23:49, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Further, I've replied to only two opposers in an attempt to refute their oppose rationales. I was just noting the third's contradiction (opposing while saying he thinks Majorly should be an admin). Timmeh!(review me) 23:58, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your support

I would like to thank you for coming out and participating in my Request for Adminship, which closed unsuccessfully at (48/8/6) based on my withdrawal. I withdrew because in my opinion I need to focus on problems with my content contributions before I can proceed with expanding my responsibilities. Overall I feel that the RfA has improved me as an editor and in turn some articles which in my eyes is successful. Thank you again for your support. Cheers and happy editing. --kelapstick (talk) 17:52, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

The section was closed....

...right in the middle of things, so I got cut off trying to reply to you. If you don't care, then please ignore this, but if you do:

Why is making it easier to view the edit history an advantage that outweighs the courtesy of accommodating a request? I see zero gain, versus a definite moral loss. Something to think about, y'know. -GTBacchus(talk) 04:19, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

As said by others before, DougsTech is obviously not in good standing with the community, so he has no right to vanish, regardless of whether he requests it or not. Also, admins shouldn't be the only ones able to view his talk page history if the need arises in the future. I really don't feel like discussing this further, and the thread at ANI has been closed. So, unless you want to start a new one to try to get consensus to delete his talk page, I think this whole debacle involving DougsTech can finally be put behind us. Timmeh!(review me) 14:08, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
No, I agree with letting it go now. I just was posting my reply, in case you were interested. I'm not concerned with "rights". If you really want to know what I think, there's plenty of it on my talk page. I'll leave you in peace here. -GTBacchus(talk) 19:16, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

21st Century Breakdown

I see you nominated the new Green Day album for the GA process. I wanted to let you know that generally articles based on topics that have occured or been released recently do not pass GAN or FAC, because by their nature they are still under heavy developmentand prone to change greatly. A similiar instance occured when In Rainbows was nominated so soon after it was released. I advise removing the nomination, wait a few months, gather more sources as they are released, and then list it again. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:47, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

The only information I can see changing in this one is the sales numbers and maybe chart positions. Could you give an example of what parts of the article would change greatly? Timmeh!(review me) 15:59, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry it's been awhile. Aside from sales numbers and chart positions, you have to consider future/prospective singles, touring, and in particular awards (especially year-end reviews). It's just better off to wait until you have all your ducks in a row, otherwise you're bound to encounter headaches with reviewers about conprehensiveness. Behind Closed Doors is official single

Hey why you are deleting Behind Closed Doors Page??? On september 2007 Rise Against announced that they are releasing new single titled BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. It doesn't matter that it's an official single. This AfD discussion resulted in a decision to merge the article with The Sufferer & the Witness because the single is not notable enough for its own article. Timmeh!(review me) 14:36, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

A suggestion/request

I coordinate a team of advanced editors. We use tools like WP:LINKY, WP:WikEd, WP:REGEX, and WP:AWB to edit batches of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of pages at a time. We do a lot of support work for WP:WPOOK (link hunts, fill-ins, "bluelinking", template placing, banner and notice posting, etc.) and correcting problems that the OOK has revealed in the encyclopedia (gaps, naming inconsistencies, poor integration, etc.). Pretty much anything goes, and usually large amounts of it.

We're looking for editors eager to learn and willing to take on anything.

If you'd like to join, drop me a note.

Hi, sorry to bother you but the FAC people are being really anal and want supporting users to additionally state whether they believe the sources to be reliable because Ealdgyth left them to the editors' discretion (no idea why especially as I fulfilled his criteria). Could you pop back and add your thoughts about them to your support? Thanks. Rafablu88 (talk) 15:10, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Presidential Elections

Sorry, I didn't know that there was a consensus on bolding only the electoral vote winner. However, Dave Leip's numbers are used in all of the presidential elections with the exception of the most recent ones (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008). Would it be better if we kept it consistent by using only Dave Leip's numbers?--Tilden76 (talk) 22:45, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I believe it would be better to have them all use the FEC's numbers, as we know the methodology the FEC uses to get them. They just add the official numbers gathered from each state's website. We don't know Leip's methodology, which means he's not a reliable source. Timmeh!(review me) 22:49, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Left you a reply on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hero of War. Alex (talk) 01:33, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

OK, your request is done. About "Hero of War" being deleted is now on this page. Alex (talk) 02:15, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
You have it wrong, I'm afraid. In redirects for discussion, you should provide a reason for the redirect itself to be deleted, not the article it is in place of. In this case, I think "Hero of War" is too general of a title, and most people that search for it likely aren't looking for the Rise Against song. Timmeh!(review me) 03:06, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Re: Savior

According to what you said here, "Savior" is not even a single yet. That's why I removed it. I thought I could be a good idea to wait until there's an official announcement whether it will be a single or something. Alex (talk) 15:32, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I've decided to just lay out the facts that it's being sent to radio stations and being speculated on as a single, but I didn't say it was confirmed as a single or add it to the infobox. Timmeh!(review me) 15:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hero of War Single (Rise Against Song)

Hi there, I have a question, why the people in wikipedia say that "Hero of War" Single not exist?

I recently searched info in online stores and I found the Single of "Hero of War" on UK iTunes, see with your owns eyes:(you need iTunes software installed) http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=319547712&s=143444

"Hero of War" single never registered as "Charted" the same with "The Approaching Curve" So can you answer me that question, these songs are singles or not?? and why?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Novasair (talkcontribs) 04:18, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

According to this article, "Hero of War" is not an official single. Also, the iTunes store is not a reliable source and especially so because of its inaccessibility to those who do not have iTunes installed on their computers. Sorry, but any further questions will have to wait until tomorrow. It's very late here. Timmeh 04:23, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, please don't remove others' talk page comments. If you wish to say something else, please add it to the bottom of the discussion. Timmeh 13:21, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Maybe you've reason man, but i've others questions:

Why iTunes sell this song (Hero of War) as a single?? Do they not respect the work or the material of others artists??

And what about "The Approaching Curve", is this a true single?? since that's not appear on the BillBoard's web site and it never charted (even we don't have a reference on the main article of that song), the same with the singles of "Revolutions Per Minute" album, these songs are true singles??? and why?? I will appreciate your answer man and thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Novasair (talkcontribs) 01:19, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't know why iTunes is selling it as a single; I don't have access to the iTunes store. As for "The Approaching Curve", I couldn't tell you whether or not it is a single. I haven't looked into that. If you believe it's not and think it's not deserving of its own article, you can nominate it for deletion. I know I saw an interview in which McIlrath talked about "Heaven Knows" being an official single, but I don't know about "Like the Angel". Regardless of all of those, "Hero of War" is not a single according to reliable sources and the band. There was no physical or digital single released, and the song wasn't sent to radio stations. Timmeh 01:51, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Your RfA

In your RfA you comment how you'd like to start your admin work partially in Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files. Considering the facts that you have somewhere between 111 and 184 deleted edits and only 33 non-deleted edits in the File namespace, I suggest you get more experience before working in the above linked category. Also, you stated:

...seems to have a fairly large backlog...

with regards to the cat above. Did you think that cat currently has a fairly large backlog? The reason I ask is because it is normal for 7 day old categories to show up there due to WP:CSD#F5.--Rockfang (talk) 06:59, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Best wishes for your RFA -- Tinu Cherian - 10:42, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
The category seemed fairly simple to manage. Just make sure the images are fair use and orphaned for seven days, and they can be deleted. When I checked, there looked like a large backlog there, showing images more than nine days old, but it seems to be cleared now. I suppose I won't need to work there, then. Thanks for the notice and the best wishes. Timmeh 17:04, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Your RfA

It's perfectly fine. I perfectly understand that when one opposes, one is simply trying to protect the encyclopedia from a potentially bad administrator. Best of luck at your RfA! Malinaccier (talk) 17:16, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

You may do best not to respond to opposes - I rarely see the benefit, people often shoot from the lip and become more entrenched in their positions; a little grace under fire goes a long way. Good luck by the way, so far IMO the best answers to my now-almost-standard questions. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:07, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
I've been told it's perfectly fine to clarify my actions or positions in response to an oppose, but not to badger them. I'm trying not to go so far as to badger anybody. I may get useful advice from responding to certain opposes, and either way, barring something earthshaking, my RFA is going to fail. I just want to come out of it with as much useful advice as possible about how I can improve, and sadly, the majority of my opposers aren't providing it. Timmeh 23:17, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm not accusing you of badgering. Lack of response (or ways to improve), I find is normal. :-( Carlossuarez46 (talk) 23:34, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Timmeh, sorry, but I had to oppose – RfAs carry an inevitable stresser, and don't let it bring you down. :-) I see your above comments, which allude that you'll be handling this scenario of an unsuccessful RfA well. My oppose may as well be marked as "weak"er, although I do have concerns. If anything, try to treat all the comments as improvement feedback that you can utilize; like a big editor review. ;) Cheers, JamieS93 20:47, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Outline collaboration #2: Outline of Gibraltar

This outline is approaching completion.

I added a bunch more links, finding them with the following Google site-specific searches of Wikipedia:

(You can use the wikicode for the links above as the basis for new searches - just replace "Gibraltar" with any other country or region name).

Hi Tim

The status in Italy of Green day's last album is verificable on the www.worldwidealbums.net. In this site there's a completly album chart with estimation. The album has estimated more of 58,000 copies sold and peaked n°1 for one week. If it sold 58,000 copies, it's certently distribuited more of 70,000 and in Italy, the platinum status is at 70,000 copies distribuited. Actually the album is still at n°5, (-1 from last week). Sorry for my english not perfect.

Your truly Fabio

Hi Fabio. You could add the information back into the article if you cite a reliable source that directly says 70,000 were sold in Italy. However, you can't inflate 58,000 to 70,000 based on your own reasoning. Timmeh 14:09, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Response to RfA

You will make a great admin, and I posted in support of you on the relevant discussion page. (I feel the same way about your fellow editor Rosiestep) Wikipedia is a very worthwhile resource. I've added articles here, and made edits to others. None of my articles have been deleted lol. A few examples I feel really good about are Drift River Terminal Facility and 2009 Mount Redoubt (Alaska) eruptive activity for recent examples. If I had more time I would join the Wikiproject Alaska, but I did join the WKP Green Day.

Anyway, to my point: Thanks for a gentle kick in the pants. While ALL of my edits have been good faith, you have helped me see its time to take it to the next level.

Oh, and thanks for dealing with that troll, Revort123. Although... you went a little easy on him. Easier then I would have! Michaelh2001 (talk) 13:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

For you and anyone who cared enough to look at this page after you withdrew

You've had a pretty rough few days, time to relax and put your feet up, and remember you may not have achieved consensus but for what its worth you got a clear majority. ϢereSpielChequers 23:57, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes, and it does feel good to have that great weight taken off my shoulders. Thanks, and I'll have to keep this "beerstar" stored until I'm in a country that lets those under 21 drink. :-) Timmeh 00:05, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
You got strong support and I'm sure you'll do fine next time around. I would say go to WP:ER in 2 months, but I've been very disappointed in the results there lately. OTOH, WSC knows what he's doing, and he'll tell you when it's safe to jump back in the water. I hope that I didn't come across as harsh; my intent was to try to frame the debate more in terms of communication (people might react like this if you say that) rather than trying to judge your personality, which is how RFA often comes across. - Dank (push to talk) 02:41, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm not exactly happy with WP:ER either. I got four reviews and not one mentioned any of the issues brought up by opposers in my RFA. But I suppose I'll try again anyway and see what kind of reviews I get. Thanks for providing the useful advice. Timmeh 02:56, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm sure you will get it next time. You could be a good admin.--The Legendary Sky Attacker 05:56, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Help Needed with user (user claims ownership of articles)

recently I've had some problems with User:Jerzeykydd on the articles for the state results of united states presidential elections for the years 2000, 2004, 2008. (example United States presidential election in Iowa, 2004)

The user changed section labeling removing "election results" and changing it to "Statewide" & "County Results" when I changed it back to "Election Results" and "Results by County" I explained that the only result was the statewide and that the county was a subsection of that result, since the statewide is how electoral votes are awarded. The user quickly reverted my edits as vandalism and sent me the message listed below on my talk page, in which he claims a form of ownership over the articles.

"I believe election articles should be distinguished between statewide, county, and congressional district. If it just say election results, it could be anything. It has to be specific. I made every presidential election article that way I am planning on keeping it that way."

I have tried to deal with the user on his talk page pointing out some inaccuracies and POV wording as well as thanking them for there contributions. Now that the user clearly is stating a form of ownership over the articles (I made every presidential election article that way I am planning on keeping it that way) I feel I need some help in the matter thank you for your time.

P.S. Thanks for all your hard work on the presidential election articles!!!!! Highground79 (talk) 04:10, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I've given him a warning on his talk page. Let me know if he continues asserting ownership or changing the headers without discussion. Timmeh 15:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
