[edit]Hi! I see you changed the Quitman infobox photo to one of the city hall. Where is that? When I last visited, I didn't know where it was, which is why I added the courthouse picture instead. Do you live in the area? If so, might I convince you to take some photos of NRHPs in the area? Anyhoo, keep up the good work. :) --‖ Ebyabe talk - General Health ‖ 00:52, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
- I actually live in Valdosta. I took a picture of the courthouse today but to get the whole thing in the frame, the streetlight is in the picture [1] so I kept the Brooks County page as is. I was actually standing on the opposite side of US 84 so I could get far enough back. If I turned my head to the left (while standing in the median of GA 333) there is the City Hall. The sign actually says City Hall - Admistrative Offices. It is the first city hall that I've take pictures of that does not say City Hall on the building itself, actually same goes for the courthouse. It does not say Brooks County Courthouse on it. Sure, I'd be glad to take any requested photos. Here is a list of all the photos I've taken: [2] --Mjrmtg (talk) 02:04, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Valdosta photos
[edit]You live in Valdosta? I live in Marion County, Florida; we're practically neighbors! :) Could you get photos of Crestwood and the North Patterson Street Historic District? Then the Lowndes County NRHP list would be fully illustrated. I was going to do so myself, but I don't know when I'll be able to get back there again. I'd also love to get back to Thomasville. Last time I could only spend a couple of hours there. The Lapham-Patterson House alone was worth it! Cheers, and keep up the good photographin' work. :) --‖ Ebyabe talk - Welfare State ‖ 13:56, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- I took one of the North Patterson Street Historic District. I'll get one of The Crestwood next. --Mjrmtg (talk) 19:10, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Parking Garage photos
[edit]Thank you for letting me know about the VSU parking garage photos. I have information and dates for their construction and I will work something up on the Buildings at Valdosta State University page. --Jadvii (talk) 13:19, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Telfair County jail
[edit]Back in October you asked me about the Telfair County jail, since it goes with the courthouse as part of NRHP. At that time I'd photographed the courthouse only but the other day I got some photos of the jail. There is no article for the pair of buildings but the courthouse does have a commons category. Do you think it would be best to put the jail photo in that category? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 15:55, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- The National Register of Historic Places application is entitled "Telfair County Courthouse and Jail". I believe that should be the name of the Category created, the Courthouse category would then be under it and photographs of the Jail would be in the above category also. I can create it or you can, up to you :) --Mjrmtg (talk) 00:14, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- I can create the cat. I've been thinking that I'll start a little article so I can put the photo there. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:59, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

I'm curious, why did you replace the lede image? I don't have much attachment to my 10-year old image of the depot, just trying to figure out why that city hall image is an improvement. BrineStans (talk) 17:21, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- I could swear that I read somewhere that lede images for cities should by City Hall photos, for counties they should be Courthouse photos (but can't find where I read that right now). I just happened to notice the city hall photo wasn't being used. --Mjrmtg (talk) 21:29, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- It's no problem. While courthouses are used for counties (even specified by the infobox parameter), I'm not aware of any guidelines that prefer city halls over other descriptive views of the city (e.g., skylines or downtown areas) for cities/towns. It's ok to use city halls for the lede, but I'm pretty sure it isn't mandatory, or given precedence in the same way as county courthouses (at least most city/town articles don't use city halls for the lede). In any case, no big deal.
- If you do find such a guideline, let me know. I usually take a picture of the city or town hall when photographing a city for Wikipedia, and include it in the city's Commons category. BrineStans (talk) 22:23, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
I've reverted this back to the previous image. If there is no guideline requiring a city hall image, please don't replace any of my lede images for the sole purpose of having an image of the city hall in the lede. BrineStans (talk) 15:56, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
- I'm sorry. I didn't know you owned the article. --Mjrmtg (talk) 22:02, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
- Come on, man, pulling the ownership card over a photo dispute? Maybe it was a poor choice of words on my part. I'm just wondering, what's up with replacing lede images with city hall images? Nothing against it, just puzzled by it. While some city halls are charming, unique structures, others are just pre-fab utilitarian buildings for the city to store its stuff. BrineStans (talk) 00:52, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Many small cities do not have a photo in the lede image so I thought I'd go county by county and make a list of which cities didn't have photos. I was also comparing to see which cities had a photo of a city hall on Wikimedia Commons. I saw the photo of Menlo City Hall on Commons and put it in the lede. You're right, there is no guideline as far as lede images. I thought city halls are representative of the city. --Mjrmtg (talk) 10:30, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Tifton city halls
[edit]I do like this pic. Hey, do you know if the Tifton City Hall is currently located in the old Myon Hotel building (as in photo at right), or has it moved on to a new building?
I was requesting some file name changes at Commons to differentiate between photos of the Media related to Old Tifton City Hall at Wikimedia Commons (included in the Tifton Residential Historic District) vs. Media related to Tifton City Hall at Wikimedia Commons( in the Tifton Commercial Historic District), but am not confident i was/am correct when saying the Myon Hotel one is current. Maybe there are two notable Old City Halls? --Doncram (talk) 00:26, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- I will make a phone call on Monday to verify the location of city hall. The 2005 photo of Tifton City Hall is one of the first photos I took locally when I first developed an interest in photographing places. --Mjrmtg (talk) 02:44, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, the Myon Hotel is the current city hall. --Mjrmtg (talk) 22:30, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
what have u done for me, lately?
[edit]Hey, you might have uploaded 23,000 pics to Commons, but you seem to have missed pics for Davis-Felton Plantation and for Log Dogtrot House in Houston County, Georgia, not too far away (just 87 miles?) from Tifton, Georgia. Dude, what's up? :) --Doncram (talk) 21:23, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- I will add them to my list of requested photo locations. I haven't done as much photo trips the past year. I hope to do more. --Mjrmtg (talk) 21:32, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Checking if a high school in Georgia is in an unincorporated area
[edit]Hello! I found that the Georgia Department of Transportation Highway maps are helpful in checking if a high school is in an unincorporated area, or if it is in a municipality other than what the USPS postal address states.
For example https://www.dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart/MapsData/Documents/CountyMaps/Dekalb.pdf shows locations of high schools outside of city limits in a single map (unfortunately not all are labeled, but several are). They are good to use in citations. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:46, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
