Invitation to join WikiProject Brands
Hello, Davey2010.
You are invited to join WikiProject Brands, a WikiProject and resource dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of brands and brand-related topics. |
Done - Many thanks North "Amazing" America for the invite - I was meant to have replied after I joined but seemingly forgot, Anyway thanks :), –Davey2010Talk 22:29, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'm amazed and happy that you joined up! I created this project back in the day because many product articles and topics lacked a Wikiproject, so people would classify topics under the generic Business project and the more-related Companies project. North America1000 23:44, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

No worries. Not that I'm crazy about white space-only edits either, but they're usually only a minor misdemeanor. In this case they (along with the fake edit summary) were an intentional smokescreen by DolphinCat (talk · contribs) to cover his tracks for the more serious violation he was trying to get away with. (And did get away with, for half a day; should've nabbed that earlier.) So not surprised you didn't see the gender thing at first glance; that was the whole purpose behind his numerous white space changes. By the way, when you want to "reply" or leave a note in the history via edit summary, you can use a dummy edit without having to change the article or resort to a modified Undo; here's some examples.) Happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 21:09, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Mathglot, I'm usually good at spotting stuff like that but somehow it just completely escaped me today so sorry about that,
- He's certainly very sneaky that's for sure!,
- Anyway inregards to the dummy edit I objected to the whitespace removal which is why I (partially) reverted - Had it been the infobox addition only then sure I would've done a dummy edit but I felt it was pointless to do a dummy edit and then change the infobox spacing again so I figured I'd kill 2 birds with one stone :),
- Many thanks for your message, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:48, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Davey, I reverted your edit, because noting that you made a mistake. Vauxford's image shows an MK3 cabriolet image rather than an MK4 cabriolet. OSX's shows the MK4 cabriolet. I know this because one of my ex-teachers at school used to own one of these, and saw this at school. I hope you understand. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 10:42, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Nim, I'll take another look, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:00, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

- Also another revert you made, of a perfectly fine Ford Kuga image that has been in the article without any problem, additionally Vauxford did some edits, which I approved of. How was Matthias image better than mine? Its completely squashed in and also its not showing the side view properly. I wasn't going to revert the edit, but you should understand that sometimes the best quality images do not have to be from the different authors. The previous photo was fine, and also it has been used without issue since August. It actually looks a lot nicer compared to the image. Why do you always believe that every article should have different authors? I am not being personal about my reverts, however I am slightly concerned about your editing behaviour, as it used to be how I made it. Also remember how you told me to follow WP:BRD? Well based on this edit, you reverted me back, thus not following WP:BRD. Also I am NOT mentioning CARPIX guidelines, this edit was based upon my years of experience in the car photography field. I've been mentored by a lot of people in relation to your images. Also note if I revert you, please discuss instead of reverting me. You are more than welcome to revert me IF I make the edit before you, and its not an improvement, otherwise I'll have to do BRD for you :) You are a caring friend and I don't want you to stress out. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 10:42, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- I would consider those images fine and so they should remain, Please don't use BRD as a way to secure your images on the article - It won't work. –Davey2010Talk 11:07, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Having compared both revisions I would say the front replacement image is much better however I agree the rear is not (because it doesn't show the whole car like the previous one did) so I've partially reverted, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:10, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- I've set a compromise as per [1]. Lets use M 93's image for the rear and then use mine for the front. That means that we get equal share and everyone is happy :-) --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 11:11, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

- I also noted on this discussion you want me to have a topic ban for a year. Out of curiosity, isn't that a little bit harsh. Besides I've never had an ANI report before, this is my first time. I do indeed apologise, but I have indeed mellowed down lately. I've now stopped doing constant image replacements, rather I'm going to try and improve my shots. I guess that year I went too far, and I do indeed apologise for my behaviour that year. I guess now, its time for me to work on new sections. My latest edits, [2] [3] i've been working on adding citations to the articles. So I've suggested this compromise. Instead of implementing a topic ban from automobiles firmly, why don't you implement a topic ban for me for the year you propose from replacing images. This means that I can work on expanding the article with Australian market, as a lot of people haven't been willing to type some facts, so I can step away from the picture segment, for a while and work on typing and making Wikipedia better. This means reduced image wars, therefore I can ensure we have a very comprehensive encylopedia. I thought you would like to consider this suggestion :-). Again, I'm terribly sorry about my behaviour and cause. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 11:20, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Nim, No worries, Happy editing, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 13:10, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Could you please reconsider changing the topic ban to maybe 5-6 months please. I will definitely change my behaviour then :). Also my images would have been massively improved. Could you tell me what you expect of a high quality image to your standards please, I really want you to mentor me :) --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 13:12, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

EurovisionNim Just because you stopped doing it now doesn't mean the topic ban should be stop, personally I'm siding with Davey for a year, seeing the reactions of other users and proven that I'm not the only one who find you difficult to work with as well as your attempt of vote stacking it and asking people like 1292simon and indirectly to Oshwah. These "compromises" that you been making is basically sweeping the problems you caused under the rug. Davey be careful when discussing with Nim, don't let your talkpage become like mine that is flooded with this sort of discussion on a daily basis. --Vauxford (talk) 16:33, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hi Vauxford, Many thanks for your comments, Glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed the subtle canvassing going on,
- Anyway hopefully the topicban will be enacted and hopefully it will resolve a lot of the issues here, If problems continue after that then we can always revisit ANI but that's a long way off yet!,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:48, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Believe in second chances. I wasn’t aware that vote stacking was a blocKable policy. I never actually intended for the voting system to go to bias, I only sent him the message as I wanted him to see what his opinion of working with me was. It seems a little big undignified that I should be banned despite making constant apologies. Besides there are larger issues admins should be handling such as Sockpuppets, vandals etc.
- The thing I was talking to Oshwah about was a quick question, it had nothing to do with the ANI discussion as he knows about it already. All I asked him to help me with is an issue about accessing the #Wikipedia-en. Another thing I was also confuse about was how if by enacting a topic ban I wanted someone to fully clarify what articles I cannot edit and what others I can. I feel like my time is to drive away other editors and not contribute well. But now looking back , I took the time to read your complaints and then I’ve suddenly felt you and me have been arguing too much about these silly little issues that was caused by me. Besides WP:VOTESTACK I was not even made aware of the issue but you lot need to jam it in my face so now I know. Which indeed I did. Some of these policies don’t really make any sense. Okay —EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 16:45, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done - The image issue has been resolved, I would rather we didn't discuss ANI and all that, Thanks all. –Davey2010Talk 16:51, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
Please stop these unnecessary replacements
Hi Davey, this is a friendly reminder for you to stop replacing lower quality examples that do not comply to image standards (I.e. 3/4 angle and nice background) - theres no justification to replacing all the images back to their own versions. Remember quality is not all about pixels or background, if an image is representable then it should be used. I don’t intend for my reverts to stay but I’m only happy with replacements if they are higher quality and meet a certain requirement 😃—EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 17:06, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Nim, Like I said I have an issue with the articles consisting ALL of Australian pictures, My replacements were all from different countries and as such should remain, I have no problem with Aussie pictures I just want articles to have a mixture ... not ALL from one country and ALL from one photographer (OSX) .... Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 17:11, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Not being rude mate, but this is a really lame excuse. Do you intend on just shoving EU images. On the VW Golf MK7 article ONLY ONE image belonged to OSX and you think that all Australian images belong to him? Vauxford accused me of edit warring. Look I’m getting to the end of my ropes. I’m trying my best to illustrate with high quality shots but you and Vauxford gang up on me and accuse me of edit warring which I absolutely did not do. You were the one who started it and I reverted you and then you reverted back not following BRD. For one thing, I’m fed up of you swearing and just being a pain. You just try to annoy me for long time. I think Wikipedia is being riddled with mediocre images, yet you guys insist on replacing them for no reason. Look, Vauxford is being a pain by pushing his Golf image to the article when the white car was perfectly fine. How come you two just believe that UK cars should exist only, why? Is Australia not on the map? I don’t know, but it’s getrign me tired —EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 17:17, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- I noticed that which was why I added the rear back,
- No one's ganging up on you and I'm sorry you feel that way - Like I said I'm simply replacing a few images here and there,
- Well if you think it's a lame excuse then that's your opinion but from where I'm sitting it's a valid reason.
- I'm not swearing .... I don't think I've swore him for quite a few months.....,
- I said a variety ... UK, Germany, Africa, Australia, Japan, Any country on the map basically.
- –Davey2010Talk 17:22, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

- I would of left this discussion to you guys but seeing Nim name drop me over something that potentially never happened. "pushing his Golf image to the article when the white car was perfectly fine" what white car? Going through the history I don't see anywhere where we clash over a white car and my image? You making things up as you go on.--Vauxford (talk) 17:31, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah just to clarify I'm the one who added Vauxfords image (and then removed it), Vauxford has not been involved with any of the recent replacements atleast as far as I know. –Davey2010Talk 17:34, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- I have not had an issue with Davey in relation to the images, but you I do. This was actually not my own image, however I did extract it to a new file from OSX. Because Commons policies states that you cannot overwrite existing files, thereby I created a new file, because I wanted to crop out some excessive distractions. I never intended to replace with my horrible example (my grey one is horrible). Honestly, I prefer cars that are white due to the fact (and correct me if I'm wrong), have very minimal reflections. Look, I had no intentions of edit warring, but Davey keeps doing unnecessary replacements. I've almost slowly learnt my way around Wikipedia, yet you insist that I edit warred. Besides, with you handling all the replacements, articles will be flooded with mediocre images (now correct me if I'm wrong). I like some of Vauxford's images, however personally (and feel free to disagree with me), hes going a teensy bit too far, which I've been doing. Before publishing, do not worry about who took the photo, worry about whether the quality of the image is sufficient enough. Also, stop accusing me of edit warring, when in fact I was trying to correct an error he made. On numerous occassions, I've had to correct him [4], [5]. What I hate about Wikipedia, is that people replace images based on their opinion. I do indeed have these problems myself, so I do apologise, but I do it when I KNOW the image looks to be in proper factory condition. Some of the replacements Davey have made are horrible, yet he insists on these. I would have overwritten the original file, but I got blocked for that on Commons, so thats why to avoid any further consequences, I create a new file (except my own uploads of course :-P) --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:42, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- EurovisionNim (Nim): You are showing signs of WP:OWN and also blame others for your actions or if they disagree with your view/opinion. You (Nim) should cease your unhealthy obsession, I'm already starting to think you need to be blocked rather than being topic banned, until you can understand what your doing is completely getting out of hand and disruptive. Bidgee (talk) 01:53, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- I have no desire to bash this out over and over again, I've stated why I've replaced a few images and please bear in mind any editor on this project can replace any image as and when they please,
- If you don't like my actions feel free to start an ANI thread on what a terrible person I am,
- Bidgee just incase you're not aware - Nim has single handedly gone to every single Wikimedia project here and added their car images to all of them .... so this goes well beyond EN and I feel this goes beyond OWN in some respects, In all fairness I believe OSX did the exact same thing (seeing as there images too are on all projects),
- This is one unhealthy obsession and I've never seen anything like it!. –Davey2010Talk 02:16, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Bidgee (talk) 01:53, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah just to clarify I'm the one who added Vauxfords image (and then removed it), Vauxford has not been involved with any of the recent replacements atleast as far as I know. –Davey2010Talk 17:34, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- RelatedSites extension has been undeployed. It was used to create interwiki links on Wikivoyage, now handled by Wikidata. [6]
- MediaWiki logstash logging is moving to a new infrastructure. This is an ongoing deployment. [7]
- codesearch.wmflabs.org has been updated, with new and updated repositories and a new search options for code. [8]
- On several wikis, an account named "Edit filter" has been created on December 17 to perform some technical maintenance on AbuseFilter. This account has sysop rights but it's a system user and no human can use it. The account already existed on wikis where AbuseFilter can perform blocks, which are issued using this account. See T212268 for more information and future plans.
Problems
- In AbuseFilter, the "Throttle" action takes three parameters: count, period and groups. They must now strictly respect the requirements listed on mediawiki.org. A list of broken filters is on Phabricator. If you're familiar with AbuseFilter, please take a look and fix them. [9]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from January 8. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from January 9. It will be on all wikis from January 10 (calendar).
Meetings
- Search Platform Office Hours is rescheduled to January 9. Check the details for time and date.

(For Davey2010) I did not delete anything in my edits at all
Or at least I don't think I did.
P. S: Why did you delete the bit that said TSAT were sponsoring the school? Doomotron (talk) 22:36, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Doomotron, I'm currently sorting through my images over at Commons so once I'm done there I'll take a lot at your edits and see why I deleted them and then will obviously reply here after, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:04, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- I know that it appears that I have deleted text but I was actually moving text by copying and pasting it. I said on the editor notes that I was publishing edits in small 'chunks', if you will - this was done to avoid that glitch where two or more people edit the same article at the same time (I can't remember the name). Overall I have only added content to the article. Doomotron (talk) 23:20, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

- Hi again Doomotron, Sorry I was busy elsewhere and was constantly receiving notifications that you edited the talkpage, Anyway the moment I reverted you I realised the edit summary was incorrect and was supposed to have self-reverted but somehow that doesn't appear to have happened, Anyway I've self reverted now and I've also moved the infobox up :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:40, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- You can now use Google Translate in the content translation tool. [10][11]
- You can now add captions to files on Commons. Captions are short descriptions of the file. They can be translated to all languages we use. They can't use wikitext markup.
- Earlier a quoted HTML attribute had to be followed by a space. Now it doesn't. This means that some pages could look different when you save them even if you didn't edit that part of the text. [12][13]
- Templates with <templatestyles> could not show the difference between the live template and the sandbox version when they were tested. This has now been fixed. <templatestyles> has a new
wrapper
parameter now. You can use it for selectors like.mw-parser-output <wrapper parameter value> <selector from CSS page>
. [14]
Problems
- When you see an edit in the recent changes feed or in the history of a page some of them have tags. Some tags are added automatically. You can also add tags manually. Tags for edits that have been added manually can be edited. This didn't work for a little while. This has now been fixed. [15]
Changes later this week
- You can move files from your wiki to Wikimedia Commons and keep the file history with the new FileExporter. It will be a beta feature on all wikis from 16 January. If you want to test it you activate it and check your wiki's configuration file.
- Users who could cause more damage to the wikis if someone took over their account have to have more secure passwords. This includes administrators and other user groups. They can't use passwords that are in a list of common passwords. Accounts with common passwords are easy to take over. The list of common passwords was made longer a few weeks ago and has a different error message. Some user groups have been added to those who can't use common passwords. This is to protect all accounts with user rights that could cause damage. [16]
- The AbuseFilter variable
minor_edit
has been removed. It was deprecated in 2016. Now you can't use it. You can fix the filters using it. You can find them if you use the search bar on Special:AbuseFilter. - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from January 15

Hi Dave
I am trying to update the Ferryhill page as it has some invalid links and I would like to share some additional information. Please can you not revert the page? I am only trying to get it up to speed. Darrellsnixon (talk) 21:21, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Darrellsnixon, I like you already! :) (because you called me Dave and not Davey!), The issue I have is that you were trying to promote yourself and family members which is the quick way to get blocked, Inregareds to your latest edit (removing the link) this can be changed to an archive link, I would kindly suggest you don't add yourself, family members or your work to this project otherwise like i said you will be blocked, You're than welcome to update the page,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:31, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'm going to leave Ferryhill alone for the rest of my night. I am worried that I had annoyed you due to your last edsum? -Roxy, the dog. wooF 23:22, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi User:Roxy the dog, No no I wasn't annoyed with you - I was annoyed as I thought I was removing the crap but instead I was inserting it all back in - My fault entirely I should've looked at each edit before reverting - Some editors tend to allow the edits and then tidy up whereas I simply revert that editor but yeah my fault sorry!,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 00:07, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Sid Chaplin
Good morning, Dave.
Can we add Sid Chaplin, Author and Journalist to the notable people of Ferryhill? Darrellsnixon (talk) 07:58, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Good afternoon Darrell, Generally we only include people if they have articles, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 13:07, 15 January 2019 (UTC)ge
- Good evening –Davey2010Talk Sid Chaplin was a resident in Ferryhill between 1931 and 1953, there is a page about him https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Chaplin could you perhaps add him in the Notable people's section as I am no longer touching pages anymore. On Sid Chaplin's page there is an error of his place of death, it mentions Ferryhill but in fact he died at Grasmere, Cumbria. Sorry for the trouble I had caused yesterday. I am removing myself as editor as I don't want the hassle. All the best to you. Darrellsnixon (talk) 19:42, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Good evening Darrell, Providing you don't add your name or any relatives on any article here I'd be more than happy for you to do this yourself - You can add *[[Sid Chaplin]] to the bottom of that section,
- Inregards to his death if you have a source saying this then I'd be more than happy for you to change it :),
- I appreciate you didn't exactly get off to the best of starts here but in all fairness no one here did - Anyway if you don't promote yourself or your website then you'll be treated like everyone else here and obviously in terms of editing you need to start somewhere - You'll make mistakes and more than once here but the more you edit the more you get the hang of it so as I said I'd be more than happy for you to edit the article but like I said the promotional stuff needs to be knocked off,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 19:51, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
Images should not be thumbs in an infobox
Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Pages_using_infoboxes_with_thumbnail_images They put the image to the right hand side. Thanks --Akrasia25 (talk) 20:27, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Yes I know Akrasia25, I reverted you by mistake and I thought that would've been obvious by my immediate revert soon after ..... Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 20:32, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
England over UK,
Lets have a look at some other biographies, Jimmy Wales, Patrick Stewart, James Corden say England, Elizabeth II says United Kingdom, shouldn't really have UK in the format like that on Emilia Clarke. Govvy (talk) 19:51, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Govvy - Why should "UK" be ommited but "US" shouldn't ?, Also the Queen does have UK in the infobox, Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 19:56, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- No, the Queen doesn't have UK like you point out, it's written, United Kingdom. Because she is the Queen of the United Kingdom That's a big difference. However everyone else of none royal blood, between biographies, most bio's for people from England are written England, from Scotland, Scotland, because we are a regional and the UK is dropped. It's been like that for a long time. Why o why, are editors not noticing this old policy. Govvy (talk) 20:10, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Govvy - No idea, You're more than welcome to go to the talkpage and seek consensus for your changes (or point to this policy in which case I may self revert.), Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 20:14, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- O, for fuck sake, have a look at {{Infobox person}} #birth_place it clearly says For modern subjects, the country should generally be a sovereign state; for United Kingdom locations, the constituent countries of the UK are sometimes used instead, when more appropriate in the context. Govvy (talk) 20:18, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Govvy - Don't fucking swear on my fucking talkpage! , Jokes aside as this has remained in the article for over 10 years I would say you should go the talkpage as there doesn't seem to be an actual guideline that says UK shouldn't be listed - I wouldn't consider the infobox doc to be a guideline it's more or less an opinion, Sorry, Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 20:39, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Tech News
- Some people did not get last week's issue of Tech News. This was because of a problem with MassMessage. If you did not get last week's issue, you can read it on Meta. [17]
Recent changes
- The content translation tool can now use version 2 as the default version for users who turned on the beta feature. For example it adds the tracking category
Pages with unreviewed translations
to translations that might have used machine translations without fixing the problems. This is so others can find them. You can find this category inSpecial:TrackingCategories
on Wikipedias. - https://mediawiki2latex-large.wmflabs.org can now convert collects of up to 800 pages to PDF, EPUB or ODT. Previously this was 200 pages.
Problems
- When a template was edited with the visual editor, it would sometimes put all information on one line. This makes it difficult to read for editors who use the wikitext editor. It also makes it more difficult to see what happened in a diff. This problem affected edits made between 8 and 17 January and is now fixed. [18]
- MassMessage is used to post a message to many pages. It has not been working reliably. Some messages have not been posted to everyone. [19][20]
- Because of a database problem that had to be fixed immediately you could not edit most wikis for a couple of minutes on 17 January (UTC). This has now been fixed. [21]
Changes later this week
- You will be able to use template styles in the
Module
namespace. [22] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 January. It will be on all wikis from 24 January (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 23 January at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Template editor granted
Your account has been granted the "templateeditor" user permission, allowing you to edit templates and modules that have been protected with template protection. It also allows you to bypass the title blacklist, giving you the ability to create and edit editnotices. Before you use this user right, please read Wikipedia:Template editor and make sure you understand its contents. In particular, you should read the section on wise template editing and the criteria for revocation.
You can use this user right to perform maintenance, answer edit requests, and make any other simple and generally uncontroversial edits to templates, modules, and edinotices. You can also use it to enact more complex or controversial edits, after those edits are first made to a test sandbox, and their technical reliability as well as their consensus among other informed editors has been established. If you are willing to process edit requests on templates and modules, keep in mind that you are taking responsibility to ensure the edits have consensus and are technically sound.
This user right gives you access to some of Wikipedia's most important templates and modules; it is critical that you edit them wisely and that you only make edits that are backed up by consensus. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password.
If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.
If you were granted the permission on a temporary basis you will need to re-apply for the permission a few days before it expires including in your request a permalink to the discussion where it was granted and a {{ping}} for the administrator who granted the permission. You can find the permalink in your rights log.

Extras
Hi Davey2010, I've added this access for you - but please keep in mind that it can easily be used to break lots of things, and updating highly used templates and modules really isn't a good place IAR most of the time. Previewing may not always be enough either, the biggest templates have dedicated sandboxes and test cases that should be carefully reviewed. If ever in doubt, discuss first. Frankly, I'm was a little put off by your block log, but it's been a while and I'm all about AGF. Heavily used template and module functions should be considered 1RR. - Hi User:Xaosflux, My sincere apologies for not getting back sooner - had a busy morning and then once I wasn't busy I ended up completely forgetting to come back here!, Thanks so much for granting me TE it's very much appreciated,
- Despite the IAR banner here templates are certainly going to be an exception - Obviously I need to tread extremely carefully with templates so for the most visible ones I'll copy them over to my own sandbox or use a sandbox provided but then again I may not even touch those,
- Generally these days I'm more mellow and certainly more chilled, Inregards to edit warring I'll be following 1RR on all templates regardless of whether I'm right or wrong,
- Anyway many thanks again for granting this,
- Thanks, Regards, Dave/–Davey2010Talk 21:48, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

The only vandalic wikipedia is you. You change the photos by changing them, you do not even change the caption when you change the image, you are not the owner of wikipedia. - you do not even change the caption when you change the image - Cascorrin No I don't because the only language I speak and know is English (although I know a small amount of French but that's besides the point),
- "you are not the owner of wikipedia" - Could you provide diffs of where I said I was because to my knowledge I've never once claimed I was the owner,

"the only language I speak and know is English"
, you could try out Google translate. It works fairly well for many languages. Otherwise, if #4 above goes down, here's a truckload for you. You reverted the addition of a photo to Opel Karl with the edit summary "Not needed". Per WP:FIES this is inadequate. Please explain your motives for the edit. --Cornellier (talk) 18:50, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- Cornellier - "Not needed" was a sufficient reasoning and it's worth noting your link to FIES is not only irrelevant but pointless as an edit summary was provided .... it just wasn't a 1000 word essay as you would have liked.
- Anyway to answer your specific question our readers will want to know what the vehicle looks like ... the majority wont give a toss about what the engine looks like .... it would be no different to me including a picture of the windshield washer ..... both images would be useless to the average reader, Cheers. –Davey2010Talk 19:01, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Consensus on article archive color closures
It's really funny you mention this. I actually had a discussion with DBigXray about it - User talk:DBigXray/Archive2019 1#Archive top yellow. Also, I designed {{Archive top yellow}} and think it looks rather nice.. ―Matthew J. Long -Talk-☖ 15:52, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi User:MattLongCT, ANI does indeed only use atop although different editors do different things (like for instance I see someone's used a red box there),
- Whilst I do agree it can seem confusing with both blue boxes on top of each other I've done it this way from well over 3-4 years and I've never been told otherwise,
- Had you (or anyone else) reclosed it under a different box colour then it would've been left at that as I don't (never have and never will) change others box colours - You changing it gives the impression I closed it as such when I obviously didn't,
- Personally I think the yellow box is awful as is the red and green ones but again we all like different things :),
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:59, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'll leave the discretion up to you as the closer then. I'm too lazy to ask Anarchyte if they would like to change their archive box color, so I guess it is going to stay. ―Matthew J. Long -Talk-☖ 16:02, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
- I have no problems if they want to change theres but I'm gonna go on a limb and saying they probably wont as it's the standard closing template there :), Anyway thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:24, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Leave the channel's programming section alone
Hi Davey, this is HappyINC. I need you to leave the channel's programmming section alone. We nned to know what AIRS on the channel. On Pop (UK and Ireland) and Tiny Pop, I tried my best on adding sources for proof for the programs that airs on channel. And yet you still removed it. Tell me, What do you have against programming? From, HappyINC
- HappyINC, You nor I OWN any article so as such I'm entitled to revert as and when I please, That being said I'll take a look at the sourcing, If they're adequately sourced then I'd be happy for these to be kept, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 15:37, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- HappyINC I've reinstated the programming on both articles, Given we have List of programmes broadcast by Cartoon Network (UK & Ireland) it's IMHO nonseniscal to not include programming for other channels, As both articles include sourcing for most programmes I don't see why these shouldn't be added, Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 15:51, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Clarice Phelps AFD
Hi Davey. The structure of the tweet you've linked is a bit confusing because of the double negative but it's "The problem is not that X or that Y but Z", where the first "not" applies to both X and Y, so I read the tweet as stating:
- The problem is that there are very few reliable references
- Phelps is notable
- Editors are not (in this case being) a bunch of sexist trolls
I know the AFD has just closed, but I think that an explicit redaction of comment/apology might be appropriate. Cheers, ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 08:31, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi User:Hydronium Hydroxide, Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention!, Somehow I'd missed the "not", Agreed the structure is confusing she could've just said Z instead of the whole "it's not because of x or y but it's because of z", That being said it's entirely my fault for not reading it correctly so my apologies for that, I've since removed it, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:03, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Pixabay images uploaded on/after January 9, 2019 are unfree
Dear Davey,
On January 9, 2019, Pixabay made their images uploaded after this date Unfree. Before that it was CC0. Hence, the new 'updated' license template here: File:London Bus (1464575).jpg
This image was CC0 when you uploaded it, so I reviewed it. But now Pixabay is no longer free sadly. BUT, if the image was Uploaded to PixaBay BEFORE January 9, 2019, then it can be uploaded to Commons.
- Example: File:Fukugami Station platforms and tracks 2018-01-24.jpg The upload date to Pixabay was February 8, 2018 as the source says. Best,
You don't have to reply to my message. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:04, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Wikimedia commons links
Re Saga Cruises and others. What is the point in replacing a simple and adequate template to link to Wikimedia commons material, as used on many hundreds of pages, with a verbose link and an inaccurate sub-heading? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 14:34, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi , My reasoning for adding an external link header and changing commons to commons-inline is because the commons template looks oddly placed ... It doesn't look right it being directly under references. It's generally preferred to have the commons template under an external links section instead of it just being randomly placed anywhere, I feel comparing the last revision to mine IMHO mine looks a lot neater and better,
- The header is standard across all articles whether it's just a Commons link or not (IE we don't have ==Commons category==
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 14:48, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
-
- We will have to agree to disagree, I think it looks messy the way you do it. I see no problem it appearing bottom right as it does on most other pages. Your non-standard presentation actually makes it more difficult to find if you are used to the standard layout. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:42, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- Murgatroyd49 Ofcourse my way doesn't work all the time and I would probably say just under half are never changed - If it looks silly or if it drags the article on so to speak then I won't change it I suppose it but I guess it comes down to the layout really,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:17, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Commons Links

What is wrong with using the correct icon links for Wikimedia commns on the Red Eagle, Red Osprey and Red Kestrel pages? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 13:54, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, We've already had a discussion on this here where it was decided we should agree to disagree, Like I said in that discussion my changes depend on the layout of the article and again "External links" is the norm even if there are no external links, Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 13:58, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Doesn't explain your insistence on removing the icon link. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 14:29, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Murgatroyd49 Sorry if I'm sounding dense but could you clarify what you mean ? ...
- If you mean replacing the Commons box with an inlined version then I have explained this above which I'll requote "It's generally preferred to have the commons template under an external links section instead of it just being randomly placed anywhere"
- Ofcourse on a few of the articles the commons box is directly under the infobox (such as here) however with this article it requires more scrolling and it drags the article on whereas having it my way reduces the length of the article and plus our readers then can find it much more easily - We don't know why people come to thes earticles, It may be for the information or it simply may be for the images so IMHO my way is much more helpful,
- Thanks ,–Davey2010Talk 14:39, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- That doesn't answer the question as to why use the inline version rather than the icon version as used more generally. It is a matter of consistency. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:22, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- I don't see a problem with that, you can precede it with an ==External Links== subheader if you want to. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:22, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Well it does answer the question, I already do?......, Thanks for your message!. –Davey2010Talk 19:54, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

We are looking for input from as many different parts of the Wikimedia community as possible. It will come from multiple projects, in multiple languages, and with multiple perspectives.
We are currently planning the consultation. We need your help.
We need volunteers to help talk to their communities or user groups.
You can help by hosting a discussion at your wiki. Here's what to do:
- First, sign up your group here.
- Next, create a page (or a section on a Village pump, or an e-mail thread – whatever is natural for your group) to collect information from other people in your group. This is not a vote or decision-making discussion: we are just collecting feedback.
- Then ask people what they think about communication processes. We want to hear stories and other information about how people communicate with each other on and off wiki. Please consider asking these five questions:
- When you want to discuss a topic with your community, what tools work for you, and what problems block you?
- What about talk pages works for newcomers, and what blocks them?
- What do others struggle with in your community about talk pages?
- What do you wish you could do on talk pages, but can't due to the technical limitations?
- What are the important aspects of a "wiki discussion"?
- Finally, please go to Talk pages consultation 2019 on Mediawiki.org and report what you learned from your group. Please include links if the discussion is available to the public.
You can also help build the list of the many different ways people talk to each other.
Not all groups active on wikis or around wikis use the same way to discuss things: it can happen on wiki, on social networks, through external tools... Tell us how your group communicates.
You can read more about the overall process on mediawiki.org. If you have questions or ideas, you can leave feedback about the consultation process in the language you prefer.
Thank you! We're looking forward to talking with you.

Date formats
Just to let you know why I do block reverts of all your edits when you do date changes. Usually you make the date changes by script in the first edit. Then you make further edits (cleaning white space, adding {{dmy}}
template, etc). I have no problem with the further edits. I always take the time to attempt to revert only the date change edit. However, when I try to revert the single date change edit, WP tells me that the other edits conflict with that single undo. Therefore, it becomes an all or nothing revert. I'm certainly not going to leave the date changes there, so my only option left is to revert the lot. If you did the date changes last then I could revert the date changes while leaving the good changes intact. Stepho talk 10:38, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Stepho-wrs, I've always done it this way since being here - Date formats first and everything thereafter, You've had issues with my date formats on various article for quite some time however it's only you that has an issue with it,
- As I've said before I'm not going to keep a long list of articles that I shouldn't use the script on just to keep you happy - If various other editors had the same qualms then fine but IMHO it's not worth the effort all for the sake of one editor out of 5 billion!,
- Not to be disrespectful but I also don't see why I should change way I edit here all for the sake of one editor either,
- The best advice I can give is to simply revert and reapply my edits thereafter,
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:20, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you are doing the right thing then you would have an argument that you could tell to the administrators to stop me reverting you. Other people being too lazy or turning a blind eye or perhaps their ignorance of the MOS is not an excuse. From my perspective, I see someone who keeps illegally changing the date format and then expects me to carefully sift through their changes to keep or not keep individual changes. Why should I have to spend ages picking through your changes? A tiny change to the order in which you apply your edits and the problem goes away for both of us. Stepho talk 11:47, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you went to ANI I would say exactly what I said here and if I'm sanctioned for that so be it,
- It could be thousands of things - As you say editor's are too lazy to care, ignorance of MOS or IMHO they simply agree with my edits or don't see them violating MOS - As I said you can probably come up with over a thousand excuses however as I said I see it as people agreeing with my edits and I would assume if they did' disagree they'd come here,
- If you don't revert me then there's no issue is there ?, Not to be funny but as I said you're the only one with continuous issues on this,
- You're more than welcome to install
importScript('User:Plastikspork/date.js');
andimportScript('User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js'); //[[User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js]]
to your Special:common.js page - Once installed you can click on "BIGENDIAN ref dates" and "UnSprk: cite date" which will then change those articles back but like I said given I don't keep track all of what I edit however doing it this way will hopefully put an end to this silliness. - Cheers, –Davey2010Talk 12:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
- Your .js page would be located at User:Stepho-wrs/common.js. –Davey2010Talk 12:27, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Pages can use geocoordinates from Wikidata with the
mw.wikibase.entity:formatStatements
Lua function or the#statements
parser function. If they do, they will now be shown using a Kartographer<maplink>
if the wiki can use Kartographer. You can report bugs or ask questions on Phabricator. - There is now an EventStream to see when links are added or removed on Wikimedia wikis. You can read the discussions and plans.
Problems
- Some wikis will not be able to edit for a short period of time on 19 March (UTC). This will start at 15:00 UTC. It will last up to 15 minutes but probably shorter. You can see the list of affected wikis. This is because of network maintenance. You can still read the wikis.
- Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [31]
- Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. [32][33]

Emily Bear/ ssilvers and friends
I have informed people - as it seems ssilvers is a NY business and contract lawyer. There is obviously conflictof interest. Now I understand the double standard handling.Very likely there are personal/professional interests especially at JE article and hanling of others. What does one have to pay for a top rating..the same as getting kids to Harvard .. Just to let you know.
There are a few more mentioning of Emily Bear and her music in Nancy Drew reviews vulture, variety...if someone wants to update her article in future .
not my problem anymore..if &ssilvers loose his licence..maybe up to other lawyers. Goodbye english wiki and this kindergarden.Eifelochse (talk) 16:12, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- Eifelochse .... Ssilvers is an editor ... just like you and I ..... the rest of your message I couldn't understand tho,
- You're being reverted because you're making large edits to an article that has been disputed by various editors countless times.... so like everyone else here you need to go to the talkpage,
- If discussions aren't your thing then yeah editing here isn't for you. –Davey2010Talk 16:37, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

- Toolforge will shut down the Ubuntu Trusty job grid. This will happen the week of 25 March. Tools that use this grid needs to be moved to the new Debian Stretch job grid. If they haven't, they will be taken offline. Maintainers can restart the tools later. Users may not be able to use them in the meanwhile. You can see a list of affected tools.

Halsey page
Hi. I am sorry about removing those said edits from the page; I edited a lot of the info and I was worried my computer would die, so I submitted without finishing. Would it be alright if I reverted the page back to my latest edit and added the info back in where it's supposed to be? What I mean is that I removed information about her pregnancy and relationships, and had planned to put them into the personal life section where it should probably be placed. So, can I revert the page back to my latest edit and finish putting in all the info I removed? Like I said I had just planned to put the info into where it is more appropriately placed. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikki J 99 (talk • contribs) 21:15, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Nikki J 99, No worries, Generally speaking you should make small edits with descriptive edit summaries as that way you won't be reverted,
- Unfortunately many vandals remove large chunks of an article with the edit summary "Added a lot of info" so it's easy for everyone to simply assume you're a vandal so doing small edits with descriptive summaries should stop people reverting you :),
- Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:28, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

- The editing toolbar sometimes disappears when you scroll on iOS devices. This will be fixed soon. [39]
- Wikis can over-ride interface messages on-wiki. A problem meant that sometimes an old versions of any changed messages were shown instead. This included the sitenotice and other important parts of the interface. This was fixed at around 2019-03-22 16:00 (UTC). Logged-out users may still get the wrong message. Recent changes
- More wikis are now testing visual editor section editing for mobile users. You can read more.
- Admins on French and Polish Wikipedia can block someone from editing a page or a namespace. If your wiki wants to get these blocks before they are available to all wikis, you can tell the developers. [42][43]
Problems
- You will be able read but not edit most wikis for 30 minutes on 11 April at 05:00 (UTC). This is because of a hardware problem. You can see a list of the affected wikis. [44]
- A map update caused some problems on 29 March and 30 March. It was rolled back. [45]
- Pages on some Wikivoyages had problems with the top headline. This has been fixed. [46]
Changes later this week
- When you add an edit summary the VisualEditor will search your recent edit summaries in case you want to re-use one. This works in both the visual and wikitext modes on desktop. It also works on the mobile site. [47]
- The Wikimedia wikis will get a URL shortener. This will work from 11 April. You can read more. [48]
- The
{{REVISIONID}}
magic word will no longer work. This is for performance reasons. When you preview a page it will return""
(empty string). When you read a page it will return"-"
(dash). For now this will only affect content namespaces. [49] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 April. It will be on all wikis from 11 April (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 10 April at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- You will be able to preview references. This means that when you hover over the link you will get a popup that shows you a preview of the reference. It will work much like page previews. This is so you don't have to go to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will now be available as a beta feature on German and Arabic Wikipedia. [50][51]
- The Wikidata JSON output will change. Empty containers will be serialised as empty objects. This is a breaking change that will affect tools that use JSON outputs and APIs. It will happen on 30 April. You can read more and see how to test your code.

This warns or stops them if they seem to just copy what the machine translation gives them. If this system is too strict or not strict enough you can tell the language team. [72]
- The Wikidata

Orphaned non-free image File:PornoTube (straight) screenshot.png
Thanks for uploading File:PornoTube (straight) screenshot.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:46, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
Sneaky Pete
Davey2010, Respectfully ask for an explanation for undoing my change to the title of Sneaky Pete. When one puts both complete words "Sneaky Pete" into search, two options appear. With the first (which, with human nature, will most likely be selected) the article is cue stick forcing one to make a second selection to find the TV show. Note I searched for "PRIMARYTOPIC" with no success. Also, who is required for a consensus? Thanks, Denise B-K (talk) 02:11, 5 June 2019 (UTC) Denisebk
- Hi Denise B-K, In short the Amazon programme is far more known than the cue stick, If you look at the page views you will see the cue stick barely hits 20 views a day whereas the Amazon programmes smacks 1-2 thousand views a day ...,
- IMHO the cue stick redirect should be moved to "sneaky pete (cue stick) as a way to disambiguate from the Amazon programme however you may want to ask at the talkpage first as I'm not all that clued up on redirects, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 02:28, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes
- When you create a PDF from a page on the wiki this is now done by Proton. Before this we used Electron. It should look the same but work better. Both use Chromium. This is a different system from when you collect several articles into a book and make a PDF from them. [82][83]
- The Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standard OOUI icons. There will be additional minor fixes for positioning in the next deployment. [84]
- Bots and other scripts that do not set an identifiable User-Agent may find their requests strictly rate-limited until they identify themselves properly. [85]

Franz Kafka: Das Schloss | |

... about about alienation,

- Look, this award comes from QAI, and one of it's most prominent (and possibly still hated) members is Pigsonthewing, - we are impossible ;) - Kafka's day
to comeon 3 July, the article written mainly by another prominent (and blocked) member. Kafka described it all perfectly in Das Schloss, summarised as "about alienation, unresponsive bureaucracy, the frustration of trying to conduct business with non-transparent, seemingly arbitrary controlling systems, and the futile pursuit of an unobtainable goal". My goal, however, is to bring Vespro della Beata Vergine to GA quality, soon, so I won't join the strike although I have a lot of sympathy with all who pursue that way, and sadly miss those who retired (look for the fly on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:23, 1 July 2019 (UTC)- Sounds like we're living the Das Schloss in some ways lol, Well I applaud you for continuing on so thank you :), Happy editing. –Davey2010Talk 11:31, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you, feel understood. Kafkaesque was about all I could say to arbitration (arbitrary) restrictions, back in 2013. -You get used to even that. I once said that nothing surprises me here anymore, but the ban by T&S came as a non-transparent arbitrary surprise. I am no special friend of Fram, but of fairness. -Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:59, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
- Haha I think it was a surprise to everyone :), I agree I'm not his biggest fan but I certainly don't agree with what's happened, I want to say "hopefully common sense will prevail" but truth be told I don't think it will .... guess we'll have to wait and see lol. –Davey2010Talk 22:27, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
- Who will write the best short story Kafka style about the incident and its consequences, unresponsive bureaucracy and non-transparent, seemingly arbitrary controlling systems, in short, about frustration? Better: end the frustration? - From a note to our founder, whose page I have avoided for 5 years. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:30, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda, I suppose Fram could :), Well I suppose that would be more of a diary, Never really liked Jimbo ...until today, Weirdly at one point in my life I was posting a few congratulations or Merry Xmas messages there!, –Davey2010Talk 17:13, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Come back Davey, you're a great editor, and now the admin who blocked you for closing AfDs is gone, you can start doing it again. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:53, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 7
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Optare Versa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page London United (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Recent changes
- For event organizers, if you request a temporary lift of the IP cap for mass account creation, this will now also raise the edit rate limit for those new accounts at the event, which will prevent another bottleneck. [97]

Changes later this week

Hi Dave, out of interest did you see what I used as an edit summary? I think its valid. No sourcing for most of it and using what is essentially a blog post for the fleet listing. This is causing trouble elsewhere too for your info. Thanks Nightfury 07:33, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi User:Nightfury, My sincere apologies I hadn't realised you edited after Charles otherwise I would have reverted but added your edits back, From my perspective I simply saw Charles remove a few images and a whole chunk of random content without bothering to even source it, Many thanks for your recent edits to the article :), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:04, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Editing News #1—July 2019
Read this in another language • Subscription list for this multilingual newsletter
Welcome back to the Editing newsletter.
Since the last newsletter, the team has released two new features for the mobile visual editor and has started developing three more. All of this work is part of the team's goal to make editing on mobile web simpler.
Before talking about the team's recent releases, we have a question for you:
Are you willing to try a new way to add and change links?
If you are interested, we would value your input! You can try this new link tool in the mobile visual editor on a separate wiki.
Follow these instructions and share your experience:
Recent releases
The mobile visual editor is a simpler editing tool, for smartphones and tablets using the mobile site. The Editing team has recently launched two new features to improve the mobile visual editor:
- Section editing
- The purpose is to help contributors focus on their edits.
- The team studied this with an A/B test. This test showed that contributors who could use section editing were 1% more likely to publish the edits they started than people with only full-page editing.
- Loading overlay
- The purpose is to smooth the transition between reading and editing.
Section editing and the new loading overlay are now available to everyone using the mobile visual editor.
New and active projects
This is a list of our most active projects. Watch these pages to learn about project updates and to share your input on new designs, prototypes and research findings.
- Edit cards: This is a clearer way to add and edit links, citations, images, templates, etc. in articles. You can try this feature now. Go here to see how: 📲Try Edit Cards.
- Mobile toolbar refresh: This project will learn if contributors are more successful when the editing tools are easier to recognize.
- Mobile visual editor availability: This A/B test asks: Are newer contributors more successful if they use the mobile visual editor? We are collaborating with 20 Wikipedias to answer this question.
- Usability improvements: This project will make the mobile visual editor easier to use. The goal is to let contributors stay focused on editing and to feel more confident in the editing tools.
Looking ahead
- Wikimania: Several members of the Editing Team will be attending Wikimania in August 2019. They will lead a session about mobile editing in the Community Growth space. Talk to them about how editing can be improved.
- Talk Pages: In the coming months, the Editing Team will begin improving talk pages and communication on the wikis.
Learning more
The VisualEditor on mobile is a good place to learn more about the projects we are working on. The team wants to talk with you about anything related to editing. If you have something to say or ask, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Mobile
No worries. Yes, mobile sucks. You accidentally click revert, and despite hitting cancel, it still goes through. For example, see User talk:Amaury/2019#Rollback on WP:ANI, where I reverted an admin while on mobile. Amaury • 15:02, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Amaury, Oh wow!, When I tried to revert the vandal I have no undo button (or any twinkle buttons) .... my only way of reverting was to click edit on the clean version but even that was disastrous as I couldn't then just hit save ... I had to make another edit hence why I made one to the infobox .... It's rather surprising how awfully bad the mobile version is,
- I ended up clicking on the desktop version and it still went stupidly wrong,
- Least I know now never to bother editing wiki again atleast not a mobile device anyway! :),
- Many thanks for being patient there and also apologies for the "rvv" obviously wasn't intended to or for you,
- On a happier note it's nice to see you unblocked! :)
- Happy editing :), –Davey2010Talk 15:11, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
