[edit]Guru Nangsey Zilneon(Guru Statue)
[edit]Guru Nangsey Zilneon( Guru Statue) is the largest guru statue in the world. With the support of Druk Odiyana Project, Guru Nangsey Zilneon, was constructed at Takila under Menbi gewog. The construction was started in March 2008 and was completed in 2015. The site is located about 15kms drive away from Tangmachu village and the statue is about 157ft tall.[1] The statue is built with the respect for the fulfillment of a prophecy made by treasure hunter Lerab Lingpa (1856-1926), well known as Yogi Sonam Zangpo to preserve peace and prosperity. Thus, to fulfill the prophecy, the Druk Odiyana Foundation led by Khenpo Karpo built the world's largest Guru statue in Takila.[2]
A member of Druk Odiyana Foundation, Khenpo Gyeltshen revealed that the total cost of the statue was Nu 700 million which devotees of the foundation from within and abroad donated. The Guru Statue is a prominent structure that is attracting many tourists, locals and serves as a pilgrimage site in Lhuntse district. According to the foundation officials, the statue was prophesied by Lord Buddha and the great Dzongchen masters to bring peace and harmony in the world.[1]
Khenpo Karpo Tenzin of the foundation claimed that the Project was motivated by the revelations of two 19th-Century Dzongpoen masters and Tertoens, Jamyang Khentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul to the first king Sir Ugyen Wangchuck, when he was the Trongsa poenlop.[1]The Guru statue is surrounded by eight big and 108 small stupas(chortens). Takila, as envisioned by the late Khenpo Karpo would not only serve a sacred place of learning for monks and Nuns but also serve as a homage for the old age people in the future. The place in the future is expected to be religious based tourist place which would be significant economically to the local community and the Nation.[3]
Khenpo Karpo who built the giant bronze statue of Guru, was 82 when he passed away on January 18 in Thailand.Picture story | Kuensel Online[4]
