Musik, Musik, Musik

[edit]

The Muppetts Theme Song is identical to Musik, Musik, Musik (Ich brauche keine Millionen) the movie theme of Hallo Janine (UFA, 1939), performed by Marika Rökk; composed by Peter Kreuder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.194.216.168 (talk) 22:25, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Identical" is a big stretch. There are a few minor similarities from my perspective. Anyway, it's unclear what specific change you are requesting, but whatever it is, such an observation (and more importantly a proof of "identical") would have to be attributed to reliable published sources. And what about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXu4P6KpoLU ? --Hedron (talk) 14:02, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know what "attributed to reliable published sources" means? That isn't it. - BilCat (talk) 00:27, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can the following be seen as "attributed to reliable published sources": https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/The_Muppet_Show_Theme#Notes (second note) https://www.whosampled.com/sample/59943/The-Muppets-The-Muppet-Show-Theme-Marika-R%C3%B6kk-Ich-Brauche-Keine-Millionen/ https://cover.info/en/song/The-Muppets-The-Muppet-Show-Theme 2003:E4:BF10:FE2:84F3:991D:E9FD:FE88 (talk) 13:29, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
None of those are reliable published sources per WP:RS. BilCat (talk) 19:35, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please add Category:Television programmes produced by Associated Television (ATV)

Thank you.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Topher385 (talk) 20:50, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Prestbury+2000, when you refer to categories in discussions, you have to put a colon before the category in the link like this:
[[:Category:Television programmes produced by Associated Television (ATV)]]
If you forget to do this, the category won't display in your request, and instead you'll be adding the talk page to that category. That's why Topher385 couldn't fulfill the request--he saw a blank space after "please add". That said,  Done, I have added the category per your request in this edit. Dr. Teeth's Talent Show

[edit]

What is "Dr. Teeth's Talent Show"? It doesn't even exist! Jteka9870 (talk) 15:21, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

United States Broadcast History

[edit]

The article goes into detail about its broadcast history here in the UK, but glosses over its broadcast history in the US. The Muppet Wiki suggests that it was picked up by local television in New York three months after broadcast in the UK, but was it popular in the United States? How popular? I've always assumed it was a massive hit, but was it? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 22:18, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It aired in broadcast syndication. And it was definitely a hit. oknazevad (talk) 04:29, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If anyone does have any information with some sort of source for US broadcast IE which area picked up the series and when please do say. --Crazyseiko (talk) 12:57, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Muppet Show aired in most television markets in the U.S. and began airing in September 1976. Since it was a syndicated program, it did not air on the same day of the week or the same time in all areas. I found an ad in Broadcasting magazine which listed over 60 stations that had already agreed to air the show, six months before the broadcast debut. See [1], pp. 32-33. You can see there that, like many syndicated shows of its era, the show aired on a mixture of CBS, ABC, and NBC stations. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:56, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Extra info

[edit]

IF it's of any use there is a piece about the muppets which might give more history etc about the series here: https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=N5ZAAAAAIBAJ&sjid=JKUMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4713%2C3022703 Its form MAY 1977.

Major improvements for this page.

[edit]

I'm currently trying to drag this page upwards to make it better overall. The page lacks basic history and seems to be over cluttered on minor points. I also hope to add in more ref about the series from the time the series start in the 70s which has to be better overall. The format changes which have just taken place should make the page flow better. More to come, YES episode will be sorted hopeful --Crazyseiko (talk) 12:59, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

[edit]

Good overview of how the show came to be, but don't see anything here about why it ended - was it cancelled, did it lose funding, did Henson lose interest, etc. - was just curious. Will try to look for details. 2603:8001:2A00:7428:9D90:2F8:1268:81C6 (talk) 19:20, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. My understanding is that Henson didn't want it to decline in quality and overstay its welcome, so he ended it while ahead. With the success of The Muppet Movie, he didn't feel the need to keep it as a home base for the characters, either. oknazevad (talk) 19:47, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Was The Muppet Show actually ended on 8th June 1981?

[edit]

The end dates (except the original UK dates) are somewhat confusing, everyone stated that this show ended in the US by 23rd May but it stated in some sources that it actually ended with the Melissa Manchester episode on 8th June... was that relatable or some kind of a rumour that someone put 8th June there while it was actually a re-run? i hope someone could understand the whole thing, thanks! 86.22.223.111 (talk) 20:55, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A re-run isn't the original release. So, the date of 23rd of May is correct by the infobox parameters. --SinoDevonian (talk) 21:01, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just don't understand.

[edit]

They just didn't like how i add June 8th 1981 as the actual end date, the US dates of Melissa Manchester episode is actually accurate and was put in by HensonCo and they didn't need it, just May 23rd? you could understand that the whole US end date (May 23rd) isn't quite accurate to me, that was Marty Feldman... June 8th is actually the last for the US airings and that is actually Melissa Manchester, Toughpigs know about this, HensonCo know about this even the Muppet Wiki knows about this, if you were still thinking that May 23rd is always the end date of the US airings, then this page should be challenged, thank you folks. 86.22.223.111 (talk) 20:09, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The dates in the article are not the US dates, they are the UK dates because the shows were shown in the UK before the US.  Dr Greg  talk  20:29, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Main image

[edit]

There's a disagreement right now about the main image used at the top of the page. Since 2011, this was the page's image: original jpg image, which shows the "title card" of the show, with a stage background and Kermit the Frog appearing in the "O" of "Show".

BradfordNewton uploaded a new image for the top of the page: new png image. This image just shows the logo against a white background.

I think that the original image is more informative and helpful for readers. It shows them what the actual opening of the show was like, and provides context for understanding the premise and tone.

The edit has been reverted back and forth a couple of times, so there is obviously disagreement about which picture is best for the article. I'm opening this discussion, to hear the opinions of other editors and try to find consensus on one or the other. What do you think? Toughpigs (talk) 20:40, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. We should keep the original image, for the reasons you state.—Chowbok 03:58, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
