Baltimora

Baltimora was an Italian dance project which was popular in the mid and late 1980s. Jimmy McShane, (23 May 1957 - 29 March 1995) Northern Irish dancer and singer was chosen to be the frontman of the project. Although he was the frontman of the new wave project, the songs were written by Maurizio Bassi and Naimy Hackett, with some exceptions (McShane wrote the lyrics to the track "Survivor In Love"). Baltimora is often considered a one hit wonder since none of their songs came close to the international success of their first single, Tarzan Boy.
Career
"Tarzan Boy," released in the summer of 1985, was a huge success, debuting in the top 5 not only on the charts of their native Italy but also on the charts of many other European countries including Germany. The single found a similar success even in the USA (via EMI), with the single remaining on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six months and ultimately peaking at #13 in the early spring of 1986. Baltimora 's first album, Living In The Background, was released in Europe at the end of 1985 and arrived in U.S. some time later. Even though the album contained only six tracks, the enormous success of Tarzan Boy drove their record company to release of three more singles: Living in the Background, Woody Boogie and Chinese Restaurant. Another stand out track off the first album is "Pull The Wires". It should also be noted that Baltimora also performed on the hit US TV series Solid Gold, which in turn helped further his success in middle America.
Baltimora attempted a comeback in 1987 with a second album of eight tracks titled Survivor in Love, but the single Key Key Karimba was the only track to break into the top 20 in any countries.
The single Tarzan Boy bounced back into the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the spring of 1993 as a remix, climbing to #51 thanks to its appearance in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. The song also appeared in Beverly Hills Ninja. The instrumental to Tarzan Boy was even used as a backdrop for a Listerine commercial around this time as well.
The frontman of Baltimora project McShane died on 29 March 1995, as a result of AIDS.
