oil drop

[edit]

Qyd,

I would like to use the beautiful oil drop image (Oil-drop.png) you created for a project, but I need a 300 dpi resolution image. Could you help me out with this please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.61.34.247 (talk) 07:02, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of Alberta Highways

[edit]

I have recently completed an extensive search for Alberta secondary highways using a Government of Alberta issued map, to complete the list for List of Alberta provincial highways#Secondary highway series. After which I have discovered that you have created a number of pages for highways that I could find no reference of. I think that you may like to be informed of the following changes:

Up for deletion are:
Redirected because I could find no reference of:
Redirected because it appears their name changed:
Redirected to the former highways section:

I trust you are understanding of these changes. 117Avenue (talk) 06:52, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Former Alberta Highways

[edit]

I have recently completed a list of former Alberta Provincial highways, and added it to the List of Alberta provincial highways#Former Highways. I am hoping that you could expand to this list, any highways that were before my time, and what year these changes were made. Thanks - 117Avenue (talk) 21:32, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Qyd. Are you willing to add a more detailed description for the source of this image? "USGS data" is not a well defined source description and it remains an issue for File:Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province.jpg and File:NCVP seismic volcanoes.png because they are derivatives of that image. See Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province/archive1 for more. BT (talk) 01:03, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

USGS means United States Geological Survey; as a US government agency, all their products are public domain. And so is the file. Can't get more issue free than that. --Qyd (talk) 04:10, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know the meaning of USGS, I just did not understand how "USGS data" is a problem as a source description because USGS data is public domain. Where did the file originate from? BT (talk) 05:15, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I downloaded the data, loaded it in a GIS program, set up colors, projection, etc and saved is as an image. I suppose I can say I created the file (hence, author=me).--Qyd (talk) 04:19, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of Communities in Alberta

[edit]

Hi Qyd, I see you have some history with the above article and have also noted your past involvement with the List of Alberta Highways article. I wanted to give you a head's up that I am going to improve this article over numerous sequential edits such that it is consistent with the types of municipalities listed in the Municipal Government Act and the hierarchy of municipalities presented on the Alberta Municipal Affairs website (see http://www.municipalaffairs.alberta.ca/am_what_are_municipalities.cfm). I was thinking of the following municipal categories with the following municipal types within:

  • Urban Municipalities (Cities, Towns, Villages and Summer Villages);
  • Specialized Municipalities;
  • Rural Municipalities (Municipal Districts aka Counties, Improvement Districts and Special Areas);
  • Former Municipalities (those municipalities that have dissolved or amalgamated to become part of other municipalities);
  • Unincorporated Comminities (Urban Services Areas to cover off Fort McMurray and Sherwood Park, Townsites to cover off Redwood Meadows on the Tsuu T'ina Nation, and Hamlets];
  • Métis Settlements;
  • Indian Reserves; and
  • Other (Ghost Towns).

Everything will be verifyiable by various publications on the Municipal Affairs website. So, if you have any questions or concerns throughout the sequential edit process, please don't hesitate to contact me. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 03:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a great plan, structure seems solid, best of luck with it, cheers. --Qyd (talk) 04:16, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As I revamp this article, I now realize that the List of Cities/Towns/Villages/etc. of Alberta articles will also have to be revamped to ensure consistency and to minimize redundancy. I'll move onto these pages after the revamp of this article is complete. --Hwy43 (talk) 09:03, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of Alberta provincial highways

[edit]

In regards to the names of Alberta Highway 742, the section maintained by Alberta Transportation is called Spray Lakes Road, as confirmed with this Google Street View. Smith Dorrien Trail/Smith-Dorrien Trail refers to the section formally maintained by Alberta Transportation, and shown closed in the Street View linked to on List of. 117Avenue (talk) 00:27, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The name Spray Lakes Road is also confirmed by numerous maps on the Town of Canmore's website. I recommend exercising caution when confirming current street names using Google or other online map sites. Some of the names are incorrect (i.e., in Edmonton, James Mowatt Trail SW south of Ellerslie Road SW is incorrectly labelled as 111 Street SW by Google). This was coincidentally brought to my attention today by a city employee. Do either of you know the data source for road names used by Google and others? I suspect it is from the National Road Network (NRN) dataset distributed by GeoBase. I downloaded the dataset today and I confirmed that it incorrectly attributed James Mowatt Trail SW as 111 Street SW. --Hwy43 (talk) 01:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure about Googlemaps, though Google lists the source as Tele Atlas. I found the name "Smith Dorrien Trail" on my maps, that use DMTI Spatial data. Navteq has it as "Smith Dorrien Spray Trl". By the way, DMTI Spatial has "111 St SW", as does Navteq. --Qyd (talk) 02:46, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. Now I wonder where Tele Atlas get its information from. Does DMTI Spatial provide the data for free or is it for purchase only?
I just looked at Navteq, MapQuest, Yahoo Local Maps, MSN's Bing Maps and Google Maps/Earth. All of them show Spray Lakes Road from Three Sisters Drive to Alberta Highway 742's approximate terminus near Ken Ritchie Way (just outside of the town limits), after which all of them refer to the road as Smith Dorrien Spray Trail. I believe this part of the road was once designated Highway 742 as well but has since been decommissioned (I notice that Google still applies the highway number to the road). Canmore has published a map of Highway 742 showing its routing through Camore and its terminus. I presume the name Spray Lakes Road officially ends either at the town limits or the terminus of the highway.
I checked all of these online maps for 111 Street/James Mowatt Trail as well. All of them do not yet show the road's recent deflection/realignment in a southwesterly direction just south of Ellerslie. Perhaps James Mowatt Trail will appear when their respective bases are updated with the deflection/realignment. --Hwy43 (talk) 05:59, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I am aware that Google maps have errors, which is why I love having Street View now, to see the road signs. In the 111 Street, Edmonton article I have it ending at Ellerslie Road, making James Mowatt Trail an entirely different street. I also admit in Terwillegar Drive that the location of the transition from Terwillegar to 170 Street SW is unknown. 117Avenue (talk) 00:16, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now that I thought we had this figured out as clean and simple, but Google has expanded their street view to the south end of Smith-Dorrien Trail which shows a sign naming it Trail[1] rather than Spray Lakes Road. What do we do if there is a contradiction between a reliable map (the Canmore map) and actual signage? 117Avenue (talk) 00:55, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Depends. Is the sign within the Town of Canmore or the Kananaskis Improvement District? It could very well be that the Town uses "Road" and the M.D. uses "Trail", just like St. Albert used "Road" and Edmonton used "Trail" until St. Albert recently renamed St. Albert Road to St. Albert Trail within the past year or two. If there is inconsistent application within Canmore, then perhaps referring to it as Smith-Dorrien Road/Trail until such time as the Town rectifies the inconsistency would be the most appropriate. If you are feeling keen, you can also advise the Town of Canmore of the inconsistency, and maybe they will confirm which roadway suffix is official. --Hwy43 (talk) 03:46, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just followed the link you provided within the edit summary for the edit and it turns out the inconsistent suffixes between the municipalities is exactly what happened. I'll revise to distinguish. --Hwy43 (talk) 03:50, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Municipalities call it different names, I can go with that. I changed what you wrote though, because current 742 is only in Canmore limits, and Smith-Dorrien is only in Kananaskis limits. 117Avenue (talk) 05:09, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot about that – thanks and well done! --Hwy43 (talk) 06:18, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nominations of non-hamlets

[edit]
Please be advised that the following articles have been nominated for deletion at Articles for deletion/January 9:

These short articles were created with the assumption that they are hamlets. After a recent review of which settlements are actually hamlets, it was found that these community are not currently registered by Alberta as a hamlet, if it they ever were. I nominated them for deletion as they are short, and not notable. 117Avenue (talk) 01:05, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please be so kind as to withdraw the nominations; these are distinct communities, even if not classified as hamlets by Municipal affairs. They are first nations communities, and are not under provincial jurisdiction. --Qyd (talk) 01:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Qyd, it appears that all will be resolved as keeps instead of deletions. I just wanted to apprise you of my comments on User talk:117Avenue#Mass deletion of Alberta settlements, User talk:117Avenue#Bearberry, Alberta, and User talk:117Avenue#College Heights, Alberta, if you hadn't noticed already. If you notice that one or more of the 110+ communities actually end up being deleted, please advise as I'd be curious to know why. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 06:50, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, amazing insight; you got good sources! Good job! --Qyd (talk) 13:57, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hamlets of Alberta discussion

[edit]

Hi Qyd, I recently posted three topics of discussion on talk:Hamlets of Alberta. Since you were the first architect of the article, I would like your input on the second and third topics when you have a moment. Also, a review of the first topic may provide you some insight on the recent nomination to remove numerous Alberta community articles. I'm in support of these articles remaining for reasons too numerous to mention (some of which you've already touched upon). --Hwy43 (talk) 05:16, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of Alberta municipal districts

[edit]

Hello again, I see you were also the originator of the List of Alberta municipal districts article. With the recently completed improvements on the List of communities in Alberta to ensure consistency with Alberta Municipal Affairs, I would like to propose two options for the improvement of this article:

1) move the article to a new List of Alberta rural municipalities article so that the article presents all three types of rural municipalities (municipal districts, improvement districts and special areas) within, and delete the Specialized municipalities section and any other references to specialized municipalities throughout the article, so that the article is solely about rural municipalities, and not about both rural and specialized municipalities, or
2) delete the Other types of municipalities section in its entirety and any other references to special areas, improvement districts and specialized municipalities throughout the article so that the article is only about municipal districts, and not about municipal districts, other forms of rural municipalities and specialized municipalities.

Under either option, I propose the creation of a new List of Alberta specialized municipalities since the number of municipalities under this municipal status is anticipated to increase in the future, or just rely on the List of communities in Alberta article's Specialized municipalities section.

Under the second option, I also propose reliance on the List of communities in Alberta article's Special areas and Improvement districts sections since the number of municipalities under each of these municipal statuses is not anticipated to increase or decrease in the foreseeable future.

Thoughts/suggestions? --Hwy43 (talk) 05:46, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would work either way. Good job! --Qyd (talk) 05:53, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Abitibi

[edit]

Hey...I saw that you contributed to the Abitibi page and was wondering where you got information on Abitibi's beginnings. Any way you can point me to some source material? I am specifically looking for information on Abitibi's profits and losses during the first half of the 1900's. Anything you can pass on would be very helpful.

Industry Canada populations

[edit]

Hi Qyd, I believe you originally inserted population statistics from Industry Canada for various hamlets and other incorporated settlements in Alberta. At first glance the populations looked quite high, so I did some digging and found this. I also checked out Industry Canada's Community Demographic Profiles and compared the populations here with those available from federal or municipal censuses and confirmed they were high. I thought I'd give you a heads up that I've begun deleting references to these populations from articles with Alberta places names starting with 'A' and 'B'. I'll slowly continue through the alphabet until all references are removed from Alberta place name articles. Once all removed, we can start re-inserting the demographics sections in those hamlet articles based on the official census populations presented in the list of hamlets. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 07:34, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that Industries Canada counted all neighbouring farms and residents for their broadband study. If you delete references, please replace them with updated or better ones rather than just deleting them (as inaccurate as they may be, those numbers are produced by a government agency, and are better than nothing). Especially useful where NO data is available from Statcan. --Qyd (talk) 03:33, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Before reverting everything, please hold up and lets discuss this further. First of all, per my original message, I intend to revisit those articles where official census population is available. Secondly, Bonanza for example, Industry Canada says the area of the community is 1,787.29 (presumed hectares). See Bonanza AB Community Demographics. The actual area of the community of Bonanza is nowhere near this large (I know from previously working as a consultant for Saddle Hills County). Most towns aren't even this large in terms of area. Although I agree it appears Industry Canada is using surrounding lands (e.g., farms), making Bonanza appear larger than the nearby Village of Hines Creek is incorrect. It provides an unfair and inconsistent methodology of comparison. Being explicit about Industry Canada's different methodology in the applicable articles may be a adequate compromise. --Hwy43 (talk) 04:08, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, Im happy to hold off for a day or two on completing the remainder of my intended edits until we resolve this. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 04:19, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Devoiding the articles of any demographic information (even if it's presumably temporary) seems a bad idea. If you have better data, yes, let's replace it. However, it seems that statcan only has population count, no detailed info published (dwellings, area, etc). The population count provided by IndCan and Statcan are close from the few instances where I checked. Regarding area, we can specify that it includes the surrounding rural lands, and that density is calculated accordingly. Again, Industry Canada is a reliable source, even if not the preferred one, and those numbers are much better than no numbers at all. I find it really hard to endorse removing a government source, especially from article poor on citations. --Qyd (talk) 06:20, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

StatCan does publish populations, dwelling counts and areas of various unincorporated communities/hamlets under its urban area and designated place programs. What is important here is that the readers of a particular community's article don't leave thinking that the unincorporated community/hamlet is way larger than it actually is, and/or thinking it is larger than other communities when it actually isn't. I agree that Industry Canada's data is reliable, but its numbers are deceiving to the eye because it uses a much different methodology than what is commonly understood or expected.
As such, I recommend the following compromises for the four articles in which you reverted my edits:

  • Statistics Canada has not recently published a population for the unincorporated community of Bonanza. However, Industry Canada shows that Bonanza's greater rural area had a total population of 638 living in 254 dwellings in 2001. With a land area of 1,787.29 km2 (690.1 sq mi), Bonanza's greater rural area has a population density of 0.4 /km2 (1/sq mi).
  • Statistics Canada has not recently published a population for the Hamlet of Kinsella. However, Industry Canada shows that Kinsella's greater rural area had a total population of 451 living in 128 dwellings in 2006. With a land area of 486.9 km2 (188.0 sq mi), Kinsella's greater rural area has a population density of 7.0 /km2 (18.1/sq mi).
  • The Hamlet of Bezanson has a population of 155 according to the County of Grande Prairie No. 1's 2006 municipal census. Industry Canada shows that Bezanson's greater rural area had a total population of 197 living in 85 dwellings in 2006. With a land area of 41.40 km2 (16.0 sq mi), Bezanson's greater rural area has a population density of 4.8 /km2 (12.4/sq mi).
  • Statistics Canada's designated places program shows that the Hamlet of Fort Vermilion had a population of 714 living in 263 dwellings in 2006. With a land area of 6.81 km2 (X.XX sq mi), Fort Vermilion has a population density of 104.8 /km2 (XXX.X/sq mi). Industry Canada shows that Fort Vermilion's greater rural area had a total population of 1,326 living in 395 dwellings in 2006. With a land area of 1,027.44 km2 (396.7 sq mi), Fort Vermilion's greater rural area has a population density of 17.0 /km2 (44/sq mi).

For the latter of the two examples above, citations would be included for the federal and municipal censuses. Also in the latter two, we could strike the Industry Canada information per your replacement suggestion above.
If we were to go this route, I suggest that a community's infobox only publish its total population, dwellings, area, and density derived from StatCan federal censuses or municipal censuses. If this data is not availabe, these fields in the infobox should be left null and NOT be filled with the Industry Canada data for the reasons previously mentioned above. --Hwy43 (talk) 07:58, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, the infobox should have the statcan data only (where that is available). The demographics section should, however, include the statistics for the larger rural areas. Take Fort Vermilion for example: Statcan only counts people in the centre, but the amenities in the community center serve a large farm area on both sides of the Peace River, reaching almost to High Level. We did this for other communities, where we said x people living in the community, which serves y people living in the surrounding rural area. --Qyd (talk) 16:19, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand why it is necessary to include the Industry Canada greater rural area information for Fort Vermilion when we have all the appropriate information for just the hamlet on its own. If we start doing this, who is going to go through all of the articles for Alberta's 16 cities, 111 towns, 97 villages and 51 summer villages (if available) to do the same for consistency purposes? Despite the small sizes of most, hamlets are considered urban communities by the Province like cities, towns, villages and summer villages, so all should be held to the same standards of consistency. --Hwy43 (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever the province is considering them, hamlets are rural, and usually serve large farming or ranching areas. The population served by them should be accounted for and their existence reflected in this encyclopedia.--Qyd (talk) 23:35, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hamlets are urban communities within rural areas. Numerous Alberta villages and towns are of the same size or smaller than numerous hamlets and they serve surrounding rural areas to no less of a degree than hamlets do. The only difference is these hamlets are not incorporated while the village and towns of the same or smaller sizes are incorporated. --Hwy43 (talk) 08:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's still the issue of all other hamlets where you removed the demographics data without replacing it with anything else. --Qyd (talk) 16:23, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Remember I had planned to revisit those that had more accurate data. Perhaps an explanation of my work plan would help. My work plan was to delete references in all articles first and then revisit all with more accurate data for expediency purposes, instead of the more time-intensive process of remove and replace in one article, then move onto the next article, then repeat 79 times. Regardless, all will be revisited even if I don't have more accurate data for some. I had a list of 80 going and I got through about 47 on the initial delete process before this discussion began. It will be easy to retrace my own footsteps, I just need time. --Hwy43 (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I still find removing verifiable data terribly wrong, but, as I'm not willing to make amendments myself, I won't stay in your way. --Qyd (talk) 23:35, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duly noted. It looks like we've come to a resolution. My available time this week is lacking, so give me a bit of time to revert the edits and then implement the resolution. Thanks for engaging in a detailed discussion! Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 08:05, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alberta highway shields

[edit]

Hi there,

Have you been following the conversations at Talk:List of Alberta provincial highways#Copyrighted material and User talk:117Avenue#WP:NFLISTS and WP:NFCC? I am trying to explain to Hammersoft that the custom highways shields that used to be listed on List of Alberta provincial highways were useful in displaying the different types of highway shields in Alberta. However non-free policy usually prohibits their use on list articles. Your support in saying that this use is actually useful, WP:NFLISTS #4 and WP:NFCC #8, would be appreciated. 117Avenue (talk) 00:55, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alberta location map

[edit]

Hi Qyd, I see you've uploaded numerous Alberta-related maps in the past. Have you considered creating a replacement (or alternate version) for this particular Alberta location map? The projection used in this map greatly distorts the Province of Alberta (especially in the north) and, in my opinion, makes the province look bigger than it actually is. I think that a similar map using the province's standard projection for mapping products would make this file much more aesthetically pleasing. I believe Alberta's standard projection for mapping products is 10TM on NAD83 (CM115), although it may be 3TM. I can't quite recall but I can confirm through my work if you would like. I would create the map myself, but I don't have free GIS software at home and I can't use my GIS software at work for personal use. --Hwy43 (talk) 06:10, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This type of projection is needed for {{Location map}}, and most Alberta settlement infoboxs, to work. The longitude of a point is converted to an X coordinate on the image. 117Avenue (talk) 14:12, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeap, orthographic projection is needed for {{Location map}}. There are quite a few equal area projection (such as Lambert) maps available, you can find some in my map gallery. --Qyd (talk) 02:37, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello sorry about the Metis template..i should have asked first!...However somewhat related to that you might find of interest is a conversation that is going on about that style -->Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board#Question about Templates... again sorry !!...Moxy (talk) 01:14, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen the discussions, even threw in my opinion (to no avail). I like Canada's colors, but in this particular circumstance it looks really bad, especially when paired with other standard formatted navboxes. I hope someone with more energy will challenge the "Canadian standard" and return to the sober defaults. Cheers. --Qyd (talk) 03:39, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is just to let you know that the old City of Surrey BC logo which you uploaded here has now been replaced by a new logo in this web page which reads: City of Surrey: The Future Leaves Here The old logo was a bit dated and the mayor wanted a new logo to replace it. Perhaps you know how to upload a new logo image over the old image file? Just an idea. Regards from Surrey, BC, Canada--the second largest city in BC....after Vancouver, of course. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:39, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Parks and Additions

Hi Qyd. I sent a request to the Map Graphics team to update this map, but wonder if I should also send a note to you, as creator. Here's what I said, with some additions:

The size of Nahanni National Park Reserve needs enlarging significantly, after a huge expansion. For reference, take a look at Parks Canada's map on this page: http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nt/nahanni/ne/ne2_e.asp The map shows the original core of the park reserve, and the enlarged park reserve of today.

Missing national parks on the Wiki map appear to include: Fathom Five, Bruce Peninsula, Lake Superior, St. Lawrence Islands, Point Pelee, Georgian Bay Islands, Mingan Archipelago, Prince Edward Island, Ukkusiksalik, and Sirmilik. Some of these are small. I notice some other small parks on the map are not outlined and so barely appear to the eye. Would one solution be to use a bullet of some kind? Other omissions are quite large, and could be easily seen once added.

Terra Nova could use some shading in Newfoundland. Manitoulin Island needs recoloring in grey, since it is in Ontario, not the US. And Lake St. Clair should be colored blue, not white.

If I can help with any references, let me know. Wish I could work on the map myself, but I don't have the technical know-how. Cheers! Yoho2001 (talk) 06:18, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:41, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Louise merger

[edit]

Greetings, I'm not sure if you've seen 70.109.177.178's edits to Lake Louise, Alberta and Lake Louise (Alberta) that propose a merger between these two articles. It appears the user may have not proposed the merger correctly. I've added my two cents to each article's respective talk page, but I don't know if these are the correct locations to express my opposition. If not the correct location, please point me in the right direction. Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 05:30, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The user that proposed the merger should have started a discussion on one of the talk pages; he/she didn't. I would just delete the merger tags, it's clear that the subjects are different (even if the hamlet article has lots of lake pictures). Cheers. --Qyd (talk) 05:33, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Just done so. --Hwy43 (talk) 05:47, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map-Romance Language World

Hi,

I'd like to update the Map-Romance Language World.svg to reflect South Africa's use of English as an official language, but I don't know how to upload/update a replacement file.

Could you either make the update or walk me through it? Thank you.

Thank you for putting together these maps. I, however, only visit Calgary once every four or five years, could you please get an updated picture of The Bow, for use in the infobox? Map of parks of British Columbia

[edit]

Thank you for your map showing the location of BC provincial parks. I see that you or someone else added a red dot on the location of the specific park for each article on each park. But when a user clicks on the map to make it large, the red dot disappears. To make the map better, is there a way to retain the red dot on the larger version? I was editing the Cypress Provincial Park page when I noticed this. RGB2 (talk) 18:30, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, the template uses a shared map and superimposes the dot according to the park's coordinates. Clicking the coordinates would be a better way to see the park on a map. --Qyd (talk) 03:49, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

commons:image:TransCanadaHWY.png

TransCanadaHWY.png

I'm unsure about one of the traces on commons:image:TransCanadaHWY.png, it looks like there's a route shown on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River all the way downstream to Tadoussac, Quebec, then across the ferry to Rimouski, Quebec and back to Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec on the south shore. I don't recall this being part of the Trans-Canada Highway, the system is a mess of multiple options west of Montréal (with two different endpoints in the west) but there was just the one mainline (QC20, 85/185 and NB2) from Montréal to Moncton (the only options in the east are to visit or to miss PEI). A tag has been placed on Lake of Bays requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Proposed deletion of Quicksilver Resources

[edit]

The article Quicksilver Resources has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable company.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:49, 10 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia requested maps in the Northwest Territories indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! File permission problem with File:Stoney Nation.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Stoney Nation.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 06:32, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
