Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Samsara (talk | contribs) at 17:44, 17 November 2016 (Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Asian Month: semi 2 weeks). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Indefinite Semi-protection: Repeated vandalism, notwithstanding previous semi-protection 45ossington (talk) 13:01, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes protection: There's a very long history of targeted drive by vandalism to this article spanning many years. X201 (talk) 14:40, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Pending-changes protected indefinitely. Yaris678 (talk) 17:24, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Jay Coop · Talk · Contributions 19:37, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – This seems silly, but the result of a merge discussion, continues to be reverted. Onel5969 TT me 20:30, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As it's only one editor who's doing this dealing with them would be preferable to protecting the page. I've given them a warning for edit warring. Hut 8.5 16:24, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Class455 (talk) 21:56, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent removal of content, by Factsonlybaby (see ANI) who was blocked, now by IPs. Jim1138 (talk) 00:06, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High level of vandalism on sourced content Cyberdoomslayer (talk) 01:55, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Pending changes protection is not working. Shocking, I know. Lizard (talk) 01:57, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Multiple IPs are adding a Tesla speed based on a blog prediction of the results of an upcoming software change . Meters (talk) 02:53, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The term cuck is widely used by alt-righters on the internet to insult those with whom they disagree, so this page is getting vandalized a lot. It will also, for this reason, be vandalized a lot more if it is not semi protected. Everymorning (talk) 02:54, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Support My userspace has been vandalised with reference to this term. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 14:01, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected indefinitely. I can see that this is a long-term problem, but activity is generally low at the moment except for the brief spike four days ago. Watchlisted. Samsara 17:09, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Repeated addition of unsourced finale date and number of episodes for season two. Amaury (talk | contribs) 03:58, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism. They insist of removing the fact that Taiwan uses the name "Chinese Taipei" in the economic forum. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 05:00, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism, and sock target on a living person. Comparing living people to terrorists in edit summaries is a serious violation of our BLP policies and should be rev-deleted. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 05:45, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Also revdeled the recent BLP vandalism, including the edit mentioned above. Hut 8.5 16:12, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended confirmed protected Hut 8.5 15:38, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This award was recently stripped from its original winner due to doping, the award was retrospectively re-awarded recently and there has been vandalism since regarding the winner of the award. Can we please have some protection until the issue dies down a bit. Flickerd (talk) 06:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – An editor with two accounts continues to add content against WP:NOR and WP:SYNTH despite being advised against it on the article's talk page and being warned. It seems the editor is using this article as a WP:SOAPBOX. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:45, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Extended confirmed should generally only be granted when semi has been tried and ineffective. Samsara 17:36, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Sockpuppet Rowingasia

Semi-protection: There is a sockpuppet who creates something like 20 accounts or more per day to edit these pages, you can see here Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Rowingasia/Archive, I thought maybe an almost long semi-protection will help here. Mohsen1248 (talk) 08:37, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism. Since January 2015, an anonymous vandal is constantly trying to change the numbers in the infobox to his own liking (see: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9] latest edits: [10], [11], [12] ). His figures are not supported by anything at all and are not the same as in the sources cited in the article. Eriba-Marduk (talk) 08:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection Roughly half the edits to the page since I joined have been from new accounts and IPs, and all of them have been obvious trolling. The problem isn't all that serious (except for one instance of unambiguous racism), but semi-protecting the page until the end of the month would not do any harm because, by the nature of the editathon (participation requires the user to have an autoconfirmed account in order to create new articles), IPs and new accounts don't have a dog in the race to begin with. Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:56, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Enjoy the event. :) Samsara 17:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Beshogur (talk) 11:46, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: – Not sure which level is needed here, as this doesn't involve IPs. In the past week, three registered users (none who ever use edit summaries) keep changing the band's total sales from eight million albums to ten million, despite what it clearly says in the ref. There's been at least four such edits. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 14:27, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Linguist Moi? Moi. 14:59, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 day, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. RickinBaltimore (talk) 15:30, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism (and changing terms). Widefox; talk 15:28, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – {{ill}} and {{interlanguage link}} are redirects to {{interlanguage link multi}} per this TFD. Some editors refuse to accept this fact and keep reverting the redirects. This is a big change, and it will take some time to get used to the new system, but those involved should go through the proper channels, not just continually revert because they don't like the outcome. Primefac (talk) 16:11, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism - removing sourced material and adding unsourced. 5 different IPs all in 39.54.XXX range in the last 23 hours - Arjayay (talk) 16:18, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Samsara 16:59, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Protect til end of school year (mid June). Every edit since the start of the school year has been vandalism or school cruft or reversal or same. John from Idegon (talk) 16:25, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Let's see if this helps any. RickinBaltimore (talk) 16:29, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Recreation of content deleted via AFD. ViperSnake151  Talk  16:41, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. — MBlaze Lightning T 17:09, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multiple users/IPs changing this page. . Semmendinger (talk) 17:14, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Promote compliance with the policy on biographies on living people. There should be no expiration on the request. Saiph121 (talk) 21:25, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. There simply hasn't been any disruptive editing to the article since the recent protection expired on November 2. There's not a need for an indef at this time. RickinBaltimore (talk) 14:12, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – This article has been the target of various IPs (possibly the same user), adding an unsourced 2017 event. Silverfish (talk) 17:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – This article has been the target of various IPs (possible the same person), adding an unsourced 2017 event. Silverfish (talk) 17:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Suggest lower to indefinite template protection. The full protection level was assigned back in 2007 for being high-risk. However, it appears that the template today has less than 250 transclusions, which is even under the suggested high-use threshold. Template protection would be more than enough, (perhaps even semiprotection). — Andy W. (talk) 23:48, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
