Good articles in Wikipedia

Currently, 6,641 of a total of 6,930,941 Wikipedia articles (about 1 in 1,040) are featured articles, which have been thoroughly reviewed and designated as the very best of Wikipedia. There are also many articles containing excellent content, but which have not yet reached the featured article standard or are unlikely to reach this high standard soon due to a variety of reasons; however, providing an article meets certain quality standards and has passed through the good article nomination process, it may be listed as a good article (grade GA in the Wikipedia article grading scheme).

Currently, 40,690 [update] (about 1 in 170) articles are listed below, which meet the good article criteria: in short, they should be well written, stable, accurate, and referenced, have a neutral point of view, and show relevant illustrations with an appropriate copyright. Good articles may not be as thorough and detailed as our featured articles, but they should not omit any major facets of the topic (compare good articles v. featured articles here).

The process for designating an article as a good article is simpler than designating one as a featured article. If you find or contribute to an article meeting the good article criteria, you can nominate it on the good article candidates page for an impartial reviewer to assess and, if it is accepted, it will be added to the list of good articles. Articles are removed that have been promoted to featured status, and articles are delisted that have become degraded and no longer meet the criteria. Anyone can delist an article by following the delisting instructions. If an article's nomination fails or it is delisted, an explanation and possible improvements should be suggested on its talk page by the reviewer. Disagreements can be resolved on the review page, which WikiProject good articles helps to maintain.
