Ajax America Women is an American women's soccer team, founded in the mid-1970s by Fred Van Soest. Fred Van Soest went to the Netherlands and spoke with the Amsterdam Football Club Ajax (AFC Ajax) and asked if he could use their name and logo for a US women's soccer team and they agreed. Ajax is historically one of the most successful clubs in the world, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). In 1985, Ajax women's team was the first women's team to play in international companion in Brazil; they took 2nd to West Germany. They are also the most successful team in the history of the USASA National Women's Cup, taking the title five times over a ten-year period, their most recent win being in 2007.
The team is now a member of the Women's Premier Soccer League, the second tier of women's soccer in the United States and Canada. The team plays in the South Division of the Pacific Conference, their home stadium being Nansen Field in the city of Rolling Hills Estates, California, 15 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The team's colors are navy blue and white. Ajax women from America. The opportunity to continue their pursuit of elite soccer training and competition at Ajax was extended to youth club graduates and other top local players who wished to participate in the WPSL and take in Nansen Field's unique soccer history. During the 1980's a student by the name of Queen was a Ajax player and attended school in the university of Los Angeles , California called UCLA ,Queen thinks UCLA could give the women's soccer team varsity status without spending any money. According to her and volunteer coach Afshin Ghotbi, the only club sport at UCLA without a women's soccer team . While softball and baseball are gender-specific alternatives, the school offers both men's and women's teams in sports including basketball and tennis . Ajax, one of the top women's amateur teams in the U.S. Soccer Federation and the South Bay league under the United States of America Ladies' Soccer Organization. Ajax recently represented the U.S. Soccer Federation at the "Little World Cup" tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Lou Kaufman, an engineer and aerospace program manager who played soccer at West Point and is now attending UCLA, is also involved with the team. Ajax, one of the top women's amateur teams in the U.S. Soccer Federation, in this team there is Carrie Newburn. Kris Fontana, Lori Sase, Mary Campos, and Tara Sweeney are among the UCLA players that Ajax depends on. However, the university takes priority if Ajax's times conflict with UCLA games.
The fact that so many top national team, college, and local players have worn the Ajax jersey over the years, along with current college coaches and a player who won the Olympics not once , not twice but 3 times gold medalist in 2004, 2008, 2012 Christie Rampone , this is proof of the team's success. Christie Welsh, Abby Wambach, Karen Bardsley, Shannon Boxx, Carin Gabarra (Jennings), Cami Boswell, Lesle Gallimore, Rebecca Smith, and many more are among the many players on this amazing list. Jim Millinder, Todd Saldana, and Carlos Juarez are all former coaches. There were several L.A. Sol players who trained at Ajax. Fram Ajax is steeped in WPSL history with former player Trudy Sharpsten and former Coach Brian Boswell both inducted into the Hall of Fame.
