The course of the battle - Golani Brigade
In the darkness of the morning reserve of Wednesday 1st of the 1st of July 2006 July 26 2006, Battalion 51 began to move towards the center of the town of Bint Jbeil. Company A with the battalion commander, Lt. Col. Yaniv Asur, moved first and settled in its new position. Company C with the deputy commander of the battalion Roi Klein was the last to move and reached its destination near first light. The special unit moved first with the SMG, Major Roy Klein, and the deputy company commander, Alex Schwartzman, and they headed for the first building, the attempts to break into the house were unsuccessful. At 5:00 a.m. when the special unit was waiting in the yard for the house to be broken into, the special machine gun spotted a Hezbollah fighter behind him from the east (the direction they came from) beyond the wall, he fired a bunch of bullets at him and so began a battle that lasted for 11 consecutive hours[10]
During the battle it became clear that dozens of Hezbollah fighters were located in the nearby buildings to the east that they passed on their way to their new destination, and more than ten Hezbollah fighters even reached the wall of the olive grove that surrounded the courtyard of the building they intended to break into and spread out along it, but during the first hour of the battle Golani fighters did not know this and thought they encountered in only a limited squad of the enemy. Golani Brigade fighters opened fire and threw grenades back over the wall, but the high wall made it difficult for the fighters to return fire with their personal weapons. Maj. Gen. Klein gave the order to attack in the right flank. Lieutenant Amichai Merhavia led his platoon to the flank through the upper olive grove and was stopped by another stone wall that surrounded the upper olive grove and behind it the Hezbollah fighters had already managed to deploy, who controlled the fire on the upper grove. Platoon commander Amichai Merhavia and Sgt. The Shimon Dahan platoon was hit by a lethal squad that was positioned to their right behind the wall. The force continued shooting and throwing grenades from beyond the wall and called for help. Sgt. A stretcher that was passed to him.
On the other hand, there was an exchange of fire between the forces and Assaf Nemer, one of the soldiers of the platoon, was hit in the head and killed. Another grenade that was thrown fell near Klein. Klein recognized the grenade thrown at the force and jumped on it to save his soldiers who were nearby. Klein was mortally wounded, shouted "Shema Israel" and reported himself on the line "Klein is dead. Klein is dead" to announce that the avenue of command had been hit. After SMP Schwartzman broke through the door of the building with an explosive brick, he also jumped with his associate Idan Cohen to the Upper Plantation to help, but they too were seriously injured in their legs by a bundle fired at them from the lethal squad that was positioned to the right of the plantation. The elimination of the lethal squad on the right (probably by SMP Schwartzman and Klausner fan) at 5:30 (about 30 minutes after the start of the fight) was the first turning point in the fight.
