A request

Howdy Resolute. I wish to cash in on a favour I asked from you, months ago. Though I can't stop Djsasso from following me around (see Steven Zhang's talkpage) to discussions that don't involve him, I do prefer that he stop contacting me or commenting on my talkpage. Would you ask him to 'get off' my back, please? GoodDay (talk) 18:01, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually the discussion did involve me just so you know. You have been a massive disruption to the Wikipedia and have wasted a great many people's time. Including mine which makes me involved when you are asking to be let of a ban that keeps you from wasting even more time. Dan specifically asked for reasons from someone who you had issues with in the past to give reasons why you shouldn't be let off of it. I didn't follow you to that page I have that page watch listed. If you want people to stop objecting to you and your actions then stop acting objectionable it really is that simple. -DJSasso (talk) 18:23, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That being said, as I said over at that discussion I was only going to make the one comment there and that was it. If it ends up going to AN for an official request to remove the topic ban then I will likely comment there. But I am done over at Steve's page. -DJSasso (talk) 18:35, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps (in future) an interaction ban will be required, to get the message across to him. That's alot of drama that I wish to avoid, of course. GoodDay (talk) 18:41, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No offence, GoodDay, but it is hard to accept that you wish to avoid drama while continuing to exhibit the same mentality that led to your two topic bans. Now, you are not topic banned at all from things related to that ongoing idiotic Pedro vs. Peter argument, or from adding or removing upcoming US senator/representative succession boxes, but surely you realize you are showing the same behaviours there that has led to those bans, and to our own disputes over HHOF banners in infoboxes. I'm not going to get in the middle of your dispute with DJSasso for the same reasons I chose not to comment on these other disputes, which I did notice on your talk page. Besides, he's obviously aware of your request, so there is no need for me to do anything. Resolute 20:54, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your choosing 'not' to get involved in those other disputes. I wish Djsasso would follow your lead. GoodDay (talk) 20:57, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Finished up the GA review, after going through and fixing some minor things myself. Let me know if there are any questions, or once everything has been addressed. Canada Hky (talk) 02:22, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Lately I've been translating this article into french and came across a few things which bother me. Should I adress them directly to you or should I write them somewhere else? Thanks. --Tiouic (talk) 19:56, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to ask me. If I can't help, I might be able to direct you to someone who can. Resolute 20:36, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, here is the list:
Senior
After one year of Senior C hockey, 14-year-old James moved up to the Toronto Islanders in 1980.
That year she was 15 going on 16.
After one year of Senior C hockey, ... to win the McTeer Cup.
This all section leaves to think she took part to the 1982 women's nationals with the Islanders. However the title was won by the Agincourts Canadians [1].
The 1993 championship capped off a season in which James scored 40 goals and 70 points in 28 games.
The stats table further down gives these number for the following season.
After one final season, James retired from competitive hockey in 2000.
The Aeros were NWHL and Abby Hoffman Cup champions that year. Maybe a bit more can be said (I plan to work on this one in the next few days).
An eight-time scoring champion and six-time most valuable player
Only seven scoring titles and one MVP's are mentionned in the article.
3 Nations Cup
In the lead and in the stats table, it says she ended her international carrer in 2000 while in the text it says 1999. The table also says she took part to the 1996, 1999 and 2000 3NCs (Legends of Hockey gives 1996, 1998 and 1999, the Cup taking place usually between october and december). Going through Hockey Canada web site, I found her name for 1996 and 1999 but not for 1998 (p.8) or 2000.

--Tiouic (talk) 21:08, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Umm, I did respond to this a couple days ago, but it seems I forgot to save my response. Sorry about that! A couple of the things you pointed out were definitely errors. James' age when first at senior C, for instance. I'm pretty sure the source did say 14, but that is obviously impossible given her birthdate. The part with the 1982 women's nationals is tricky. The source definitely says she was in that game, but given Agincourt is Toronto, the Canadian Press probably just used the city name. It leaves unanswered whether it was actually the Islanders in that game (making Hockey Canada wrong) or if James was loaned to Agincourt for the tournament (far more likely, but I couldn't find a source noting it). I can't say, so I can't modify. On the 3 Nations Cup, whoever did the table made an error there, likely because the HHOF site used "1998-99" season notation for tournaments, and whoever added the table simply assumed that meant the tournament was played in 2000, not 1999. I've corrected these things. Thank you for noticing them! Resolute 14:59, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just put a few things about the 1999-00 season. I guess nothing more can be added for the moment. Thank you very much for your time. --Tiouic (talk) 21:28, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Thanks for catching the issues, and for adding to the article! Resolute 21:30, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2000 Summer Olympic & Commonwealth Games Sports Calendar

I have noticed Resolute that there is no sports Calendar for the 2000 Sdyney Olympic Games and also for the 2002 Commonwealth Games that were held in Manchester and I wonder if it was possible to create one at all? All the other Olympic Games bewteen 1960-2012 have a sports calendar apart from 2000. Also is it possible to create sports calendars for Olympic Games pior to 1956 and also for past winter olympic games as well. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 13:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

If this exists on other articles, then I'm sure it could be created for those games as well. You would need only to have the sources available to do so. Resolute 23:29, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know how to do this thou otherwise I would have already have done so Resolute. Please can you point me in the right direction. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 16:43, 14 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]
I am not sure how they did it myself. You should ask the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics. Someone there should know. Resolute 17:47, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assistant coaches

Hi Resolute, if you possibly have time, would you mind creating articles for 2 former Oilers assistant coaches Rob Daum and Billy Moores? Strange that there isn't anything for either but I thought since you're pretty active in the ice hockey WikiProject it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask you! Thanks! – Connormah (talk) 08:03, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There really isn't much I could add from my sources that isn't already available on a google search. I may take them up at some point, but I remain focused on Hall of Famers and former Flames! Resolute 01:20, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. May actually get too Moores myself when I'm in the mood. I remember him during his Oilers days, was a bit surprised he didn't have an article. – Connormah (talk) 02:51, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like today was the day I happened to be in the mood...haha. – Connormah (talk) 04:45, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hah! Nice! Resolute 14:21, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hm another if you're interested is Brian Shaw (ice hockey) - looks like a really interesting story (apparently he left the Oilers WHA job because he became so stressed when they were losing that he lost 30 pounds). Was going to get to him but I'm afraid I underestimated the amount available on him - it'll take a while to piece together everything. He was later the (I think first?) owner of the Portland Winterhawks. – Connormah (talk) 14:55, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in the middle of that myself. I completely underestimated how many in-depth stories were written about Gary Suter. At least it will make for a fairly easy run to GA! Resolute 17:57, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh nice. I may also have an image for Suter coming up for you in that case. We'll see. – Connormah (talk) 19:19, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well that would be useful! Resolute 20:39, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Got one of Adam Oates, as well, hopefully I'm lucky on the prospective Suter one I've eyed, aha. – Connormah (talk) 20:50, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful, thanks! I was waiting on Washington to come to Calgary next season to get a pic. Thanks Resolute 20:52, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hah, well I guess there's the chance he doesn't last that long as HC in Washington, I'm pretty happy I was able to get this one. – Connormah (talk) 21:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, would this possibly work as an image for Sam LoPresti, under PD-Canada-photo? – Connormah (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Probably PD-Canada, yes, but unless we knew for certain the photo was taken in Canada, we can't claim PD in the US. Since we likely cannot prove that claim, it would have to be considered fair use. Resolute 03:42, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're correct, WP:HOCKEY doesn't own hockey articles per WP:OWN & I did leave that discussion, in a angry mood. That's why I'm letting you & the others continue onward, in that discusson. I don't want my 'temper' getting me in trouble, again ;) GoodDay (talk) 20:09, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that Jaan is determined to have it his way at Leo Komarov, despite lack of consensus. GoodDay (talk) 00:48, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just pointing out that, if you had protected the Narva, Estonia version, I certaintly wouldn't have dragged you to ANI. GoodDay (talk) 02:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that, but casting aspersions on Nug's motivations isn't going to help things. You need to realize that the Baltic states disputes is easily as volatile than the BISE arguments. You really need to be on your best behaviour in this arena. Resolute 02:58, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nug's recent activity, has got be seeing red. I'll have to step back from this one :( GoodDay (talk) 21:05, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder, how much longer will the community put up with Jaan & Nug's Last wordisom & grinding down attempts. GoodDay (talk) 15:23, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It behooves me to point out that if this goes to ANI or some real form of dispute resolution, your participation likely won't be held as being any better. For my part, I'd be happy to accept Jaan's suggestion that this be considered no consensus and the articles left at their originating state. Setting the Komarov article back to "Narva, Estonia" is a small price to pay to put this nonsense to rest. I am, however, only one voice in this debate. Resolute 15:39, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know why editors continue to respond to each other in that thread, since it seems evident that no participant has been able to summarize a consensus view without facing objections from the others, and so additional opinions are needed from different editors, which is only going to happen in a broader venue. isaacl (talk)
It went to broader venues and the opinions there were more of the same. This happens with contentious topics, sometimes there just isn't a nice solution. I know you always like to try and jump in the middle of these things and be "reasonable" but that often just doesn't work. Sometimes it even makes matters worse. (ie broader venues often bring even more views making it even harder to come to a conclusion). But its nice that you try. -DJSasso (talk) 15:56, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think wanting to take to a broader venue "makes things worse" (though I know that's not quite what you meant there). At worst, it leaves a no consensus discussion still at no consensus. Sure it wastes time, but that's pretty much the definition of Wikipedia.  ;) I'd rather go through the exercise and end up agreeing to disagree than to keep the discussion small and insular and end up at DR where a lot of people would be facing sanctions, simply because it is related to the Baltic states. Resolute 16:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Though I haven't checked back recently, most (though not all) of the conversation on the other page was still among the same participants; it would have been nice to get opinions from those with lots of experience with biographies, as this type of issue surely has come up before. It's possible that the back-and-forth between the disputants may have unfortunately discouraged new participants. I just don't like to see all this time wasted in an unproductive manner (and filling up the WT:HOCKEY page on a matter that is of only tangential interest to the project), particularly when with a bit of will, the parties could channel their efforts towards actually building a consensus. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be happening. isaacl (talk) 16:28, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If some of you, want to sacrifice historical accuracy for revionism? then go for it. GoodDay (talk) 17:08, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, after reviewing Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive170#Leo Komarov and others, I see there were a number of other people who offered opinions, though it was mostly overwhelmed by the verbiage written by participants from the thread on WT:HOCKEY. Unfortunately, I guess there wasn't anyone available who could share experiences from past cases. isaacl (talk) 17:28, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. --Nug (talk) 02:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The page is now at RFPP since Nug continued to edit war on the page. Hopefully an uninvolved admin will come to the same conclusions you did. -DJSasso (talk) 19:57, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article-in-question, has been protected in the status that Nug opposes. I fear he will move into battle mode over this. GoodDay (talk) 20:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
He already is in Battle mode which is why it was protected. He has a long block log, if he continues it is likely he will get blocked again or worse. Just let him hang himself GoodDay, that is all you can do. -DJSasso (talk) 20:59, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would echo that advice dude. Given your history, getting in edit wars over anything Baltic states is a good way to get site banned. Resolute 23:14, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer is now focusing on the fact that the word "rights" doesn't appear in the refs about how Minnesota came to acquire Heindl from Boston - completely ignoring the fact that this has nothing to do with the proposed hook. I'm not sure what is up here, if it's just an editor throwing their weight around, or what. At this rate, the promotion is going to linger unless a more reasonable editor gets involved. Bill Masterton

Hi, me again, still doing some translating in french, this time it's Bill Masterton. I've done some further research and found a few things which can be of use to you. Please check references number 3, 4, 11, 26, 33, 34, 46, 47 from the french page. I've added a few others about team results or stats but I don't know if you'd be also interested. I have a couple of questions for you:

  • First about his date of birth. The NHL website says August 13th while Hockey DB says the 16th. The only other source I found which is not a statistical website is my ref number 3 saying the 16th.
  • Second about his time in the USHL. Apart from the HHOF website, I've found no other source saying that he played for Rochester but I found an article (my ref number 31) saying he spent two years with St. Paul. Vintage Minnesota Hockey has a page about the Mustangs but doesn't mention Masterton among the team's notable players.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your work. --Tiouic (talk) 20:32, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! And interesting links. I'll see what I can put into the English version. On Masterton's birth date, Hockey's Greatest Tragedies also gives August 13. In this case, I am trusting the NHL's word. As to his USHL play, I am inclined to trust your Dallas Morning News link. I'll make the change to note that he spent two years in St. Paul. Cheers! I'll refrain from alterting infoboxes, until a settlement is reached. However, you'll have to keep an eye out for Jaan & the IP's altering of infoboxes aswell. In otherwords, place a freeze on all Baltic bio infoboxes, 1940 to 1991 era :) GoodDay (talk) 14:58, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Darragh

I see that you removed Jack Darragh from the List of ice hockey players who died during their playing career, saying he retired before he died. I don't think that is accurate. According to Hockey Hall of Fame, "Darragh took the entire 1921-22 season off, but when he returned to the Senators the next year, it was as though nothing had changed. The Sens beat first the Millionaires and then the Edmonton Eskimos to win their third Stanley Cup in four years. Darragh played one more full season in the NHL, but in the summer of 1924 he succumbed to peritonitis."[3] It says nothing about him retiring. On another of their pages they list him as one of the players "who had their careers tragically cut short."[4]. If he had retired, his death would not have cut his career short. So there seems to be good evidence that he should be on the list. 99.192.95.110 (talk) 04:16, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I don't have the book handy at the moment, but I am pretty sure Players says he retired after the 1924 season, and indeed, his Wikipedia article says the same. That was the basis for my removal. But while Legends of Hockey has been known to make errors, the story on his death seems to support it. Feel free to revert my removal, it may well have been in error. Cheers! Resolute 04:53, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for linking to the obituary. When I did a google news search I got no results. Strange. As for reverting the removal, the page is locked so only logged in editors can change it, so I'll have to leave it to you to do. 99.192.95.110 (talk) 06:25, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I've also lifted the protection on that page. I think it was meant to be temporary anyway. And Google has made newspaper archive searches damn difficult since it shut down it's archiving program. You can go to http://news.google.com/archivesearch and enter your search into the pop-up box, or http://news.google.com/newspapers and either search the archive that way, or look up individual newspapers directly. Wasn't actually meant to be temporary cause it was a magnet for issues for awhile, but at this point it can be removed as I am sure the issue has died down in the last year. :) -DJSasso (talk) 14:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, temporary in the sense that it's been over a year since that edit war. One would hope people have moved on.  ;) Resolute 16:06, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As the editor in question is understandably upset, I'd as soon let matters lie to rest. isaacl (talk) 17:49, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GA review

Given you reviewed Copa Libertadores, I wondered if you're too busy or can help reviewing another article on a big soccer tournament, FIFA Club World Cup. Thanks. igordebraga 15:24, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I do focus my reviews on the sports and recreation queue, however I generally try to get the older nominations first. I will get to it eventually, if someone else does not get there first. Cheers! Resolute 23:52, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could you stop removing what i put? It's extremely annoying especially that i know for a fact he went there, because i attended the school and he was in my class from Grade 10 to Grade 12 graduation... Stop removing what i put, i will continue to add it seeing how it is 100% correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.253.90.224 (talk) 02:28, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Interaction ban in the making?

I don't want to see you posting on my talkpage again. You're not welcomed there, anymore. GoodDay (talk) 09:35, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
