The title "Zero Dark Thirty as been officially confirmed at the end of the movie's teaser trailer.[4] Earlier it was sometimes referred as Kill Bin Laden and Hunt.
Filming
The film was shot at Chandigarh, India. Some parts of Chandigarh were turned into Lahore and Abbottabad, Pakistan, where Osama bin Laden was found and killed in May 2011.[5] There have been reports of Right-wing Hindu protests against the Pakistani portrayal on Indian land.[6][7]
Controversies
The Obama Administration was accused of improperly providing Bigelow and her team access to classified information during research for the film,[8]and the Pentagon was investigating whether the filmmakers had improper access to classified material for the movie, but Bigelow denied favoritism by Obama.[9] The charges of improper access were featured in a documentary film entitled Dishonorable Disclosures, released in August 2012 by an organization composed of former U.S. intelligence and Special Forces operatives called Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc.[10]
The leaders of OPSEC (producers of Dishonorable Disclosures) have ties to the Republican Party and affiliated public relations organizations, including the former Bush Administration, the Trailblazer Group and Tea Party organizations. See, "Ex Officers Attack Obama Over Leaks on Bin Laden Raid," by Scott Shane, New York Times, August 15, 2012; "Are Swift Boat Attacks on Obama Bogus?" by Peter Bergen, CNN National Security Analyst, CNN online, August 19, 2012.
Opponents of the Obama Administration charged that Zero Dark Thirty was to be released in October 2012, just before the presidential election, to support the reelection of Barack Obama, who gave the command to initiate the raid and get Bin Laden. [11][12] Sony has since set the release date for December, 2012 and denied that it was ever scheduled for release before the election.[13][14] A prestigious December release date usually means the studio considers a film to have Academy Award potential.
