Gehlaut was born in a [[Jat]] family in Rohtak, Haryana, on 3 March 1974<ref name=":0" /> and graduated in Mechanical engineering from the [[Indian Institute of Technology Delhi|Indian Institute of Technology]], New Delhi in 1995.

Sameer built Indiabulls into one of the country’s leading diverisfied groups. During his tenure as Executive Chairman, it paid out more than $1.8 billion in dividends. Indiabulls Housing provided over $35 billion in total lending to 500,000+ customers. While Indiabulls Housing became the third largest mortgage company in India, Indiabulls Real Estate delivered some of the region’s most well-known developments, including the iconic super-prime Indiabulls Blu Estate & Club residential towers in Mumbai and sold its office complexes, One Indiabulls Centre and Indiabulls Finance Centre to Blackstone for $2 billion. Since the first initial public offering of Indiabulls in 2004, the company delivered returns at a CAGR of 35% to its shareholders.

In 2010, Sameer established the Indiabulls Foundation. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided financial support to more than 7.5 million people and distributed 2.5 million COVID-19 healthcare kits free of charge during Covid.

Sameer founded Clivedale Group in 2012 in UK. Clivedale has developed many marquee projects in Mayfair including the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences, Mayfair Park Residences managed by the Dorchester Collection and Carlton House Terrace at Pall Mall, corporate headquarters for British Petroleum.

Sameer also continues to focus on financial services in UK through his investments in different platforms.
