Cast

Couples

On August 22, 2024, Stephen Nedoroscik was the first celebrity participant announced for the season.[2] He will be the first male gymnast in the series' history to compete.[3] The full roster of celebrity participants and their partnerships will be announced on September 4, via Good Morning America.[4]

A television advertisement for the season, released on August 13, featured professional dancers Emma Slater, Sasha Farber, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Britt Stewart, Alan Bersten, Rylee Arnold, and Brandon Armstrong.[5] On August 26, Lindsay Arnold confirmed on social media that she would not be returning as a pro for the season.[6] Three days later, Witney Carson announced on Good Morning America that she will return to the lineup after she took the previous season off to focus on her family.[7] Peta Murgatroyd announced on social media that she chose to take the season off following the birth of her third child.[8] Variety confirmed that Artem Chigvintsev was not set to be a part of the cast as news broke of his arrest in Napa County, California for felony domestic violence.[9] On August 30, it was reported that Koko Iwasaki will not be returning for the season. Rylee Arnold, Jenna Johnson, and Val Chmerkovskiy were all confirmed to return. It was also reported that former troupe member Ezra Sosa would become a professional dancer this season, and Sasha Farber would return to the dance troupe.[10]

Hosts and judges

On July 17, 2024, it was announced that both Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough would be returning to co-host the show. This will mark Ribeiro's third season as host and Hough's second season as co-host, respectively.[11] On August 13, it was confirmed that Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough would be returning to the judging panel.[12]

Episode preemption

As ABC tweaked its programming schedule to avoid conflicts with the vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance, the previously scheduled October 1, 2024 episode of Dancing with the Stars will be preempted.[13] The network will instead hold a special two-night event on October 7 and October 8.[14]
